On Tuesday, our wore orange to honour the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation (September 30) and the message that Every Child Matters 🧡

We wear orange to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, and the families and communities who continue to carry their stories 🧡
Our director, Amy, shared some of her traditional Indigenous items and books for the children & families to explore. They were able to touch and smell the items including traditional medicine, moccasins, and sashes. They were also able to ask questions about the Indigenous culture 🧡
These books share the stories of children who attended the Shubenacadie Residential School. We honour their experiences by listening, learning, and remembering why Every Child Matters 🧡
Amy also shared a traditional Indigenous drum made by her father with our children & their families. Drums hold deep meaning in Indigenous communities and are used in songs, gatherings, and ceremonies 🧡
Amy prepared bannock for our families to enjoy together 😊 Bannock is a bread enjoyed in many First Nations and Métis communities, with recipes that vary from family to family.
It was lovely to see parents and children sharing a taste of bannock, with jam, butter, or honey and a cup of tea ☕️
The children designed their own orange shirts with colouring sheets and crayons. 🧡 This little artist was proud to show us hers!
We invited our families to take a moment to look at our Truth and Reconciliation presentation 🧡
Every Child Matters 🧡 May we carry what we’ve learned beyond Orange Shirt Day by continuing to listen to Indigenous voices and teach our children with care and respect.
