Yesterday, we did exactly that.

We practiced reported speech, chatted in breakout rooms, and spent an hour doing what really improves English... speaking.

Thank you to everyone who joined our very first Community English Event. We loved meeting you, and we can't wait to see you again.

We're excited to welcome the City of Edmonton to Solomon College today!

The presentation began with a fascinating journey through history, featuring photos of Edmonton from the 1900s and showing how our city has grown over the years. From there, our students explored practical recycling and waste management tips to help them navigate life in Edmonton with confidence.

We love creating opportunities for our students to learn from community partners and connect with the city they now call home. Thank you, @ for sharing your knowledge with our learners!

Learning doesn't only happen in the classroom.

Last week, our Childcare Worker Program Students, Cohort-6, visited one of our amazing community partners. Seeing a childcare setting in action helped connect classroom learning with real life.

Every visit, every conversation, and every new experience brings our students one step closer to their careers.

We're proud of how far they already have come.

We walked into the Catholic Social Services Alberta's 2026 Education and Training Fair expecting conversations...

Instead, we walked out inspired by the community behind them!

Before the event even began, Farah Ayaad created an atmosphere that felt welcoming, genuine and full of positive energy. The way she connected with her guests, supported newcomers, and brought everyone together stood out immediately.

As the day unfolded, something became very clear. This was more than an event.

It was a room full of people searching for new beginnings; asking questions about education, careers, language support, and the next step forward for themselves and their families.

And at every table, there was someone ready to listen.

As a college, moments like these remind us why community partnerships matter so much. We may come from different organizations and roles, but we share the same purpose: helping newcomers feel supported, confident, and empowered to build a future in Canada.

Some conversations lasted five minutes. Others stayed with us long after the event ended.

Because behind every question, there was hope.

We’re grateful to have been part of such a meaningful day in Edmonton’s newcomer community as Solomon College, and we will continue doing our best to connect with and support new community members at every opportunity we have!

A special thanks to our Program Coordinators, Kathy Zhang, Wynne Shane Bugatan, and Career Counsellor, Lily Yağmur G. for representing Solomon College and contributing to these meaningful conversations throughout the event.

This program is designed for newcomers to Canada who are currently unemployed or working in roles that do not reflect their potential and skills in IT!

During the session today, our career counsellor, Lily Yağmur G. will walk through the program structure, career outcomes, eligibility, and available supports, while answering questions from attendees considering their next step into the tech sector with our program coordinator, Kathy Zhang.
