Saw another story about an investment SCAM today. PEOPLE: If you want to invest and have little or no knowledge then just go and invest in mutual funds at your bank branch. The fees are high but they don't steal your money. Or look around for legitimate financial management firms like Edwards Jones or Investors Group. NEVER EVER invest money with individuals who are not part of large regulated investment firms. Stay away from anything that requires you to be an "accredited investor" unless you have a ton of knowledge and even then be very careful.

You can be a self-directed investor if you have the knowledge. But the people susceptible to scams typically do not have the knowledge and are better off to invest through their bank branch.

Financial wealth measured in dollars and actual Money are two very different things. One can be highly volatile. The other (I'm talking money in advanced economies like the U.S. dollar adn Euro and the Yen) is not at all volatile in the short term.

$240 billion vanished in a single Monday session. That is the detail that forces you to read the numbers twice. Elon Musk held the title of the world's first trillionaire for less than two weeks. After SpaceX went public, a massive tech selloff ripped through the markets, fueled by fears of an AI bubble. His net worth is now sitting at $957 billion. He still leads the global wealth rankings by a gap so wide it is hard to comprehend—the runner-up is at $297 billion. But the sheer scale of the wipeout changes how you look at the concept of money. Wealth at this tier is not a vault of cash. It is a fragile consensus.

Some companies are just obviously "on their game" so much more so than others. Linamar is in a tough industry but they know all their markets in such detail and know how to get ahead even in bad times. Just look at the data they provide in their quarterly presentation. Most companies don't even know, let along share this kind of detail.

Someone was asking me about Costco. It's a FANTASTIC business but the stock is always expensive in relation to even its high earnings.

The second paragraph gives the simple logic. Rich people are also the powerful people and if their kids are in public school they make sure public schools are good quality. This is why private schools should never get a dime of public money. They don’t need to be illegal but it’s nutty to subsidize them.

In Finland, there’s no private escape hatch — everyone’s kids go to the same neighborhood schools. 🏫

When rich and poor families share the same classrooms, everyone has a reason to make them great.
That’s how Finland built one of the world’s strongest, most equitable public education systems - by making sure every child learns together.

25 years ago, I set out to analyse long-term stock market returns compared to bonds and cash. (Spoiler alert, stocks win!)

Luckily, I came across the best possible data source which was an expensive annual reference book called Stocks, Bonds Bills and Inflation by Roger Ibbotson with data starting in 1926.

I was able to write a reference article with graphs and have updated it annually and I share it freely. I added Gold to it some years ago.

Now, finally we have reached the point where there is an even 100 years of data available and, coincidentally, the annual yearbook will no longer be produced.

This will likely be my last year of updating this highly enlightening article.
