Is the CAEC exam hard?

The honest answer is that it depends on how well you prepare. The Canadian Adult Education Credential covers foundational subject areas including mathematics, English language arts, science, and social studies. For some adults, the content feels very manageable. For others, specific subjects require more preparation and support.

What we know from years of supporting Edmonton and Alberta adults through the CAEC process is this: with the right preparation, most people are more ready than they think. The biggest barrier is usually not ability — it is access to the right support at the right time.

That is exactly what Careers in Transition provides. Full-time guided programs, one-on-one tutoring, self-paced online materials, and a certified testing centre — all designed to give Edmonton adults every tool they need to walk into their CAEC exam with confidence.

You do not have to face this exam unprepared. We are here.

Flexible payment plans available. The CAEC is the credential that employers require for entry-level positions that lead somewhere. It is what post-secondary institutions and trades programs ask for. And it is what CIT has been helping Edmonton adults earn since 1988.

If you are on income support, funding may be available to help cover the cost of your CAEC preparation — ask us about your options when you get in touch. CIT offers flexible payment plans as well, so cost does not have to be a barrier. What matters is that the path forward is real and it is accessible. Full-time prep, part-time options, self-paced On Demand learning, and one-on-one tutoring in any subject — all delivered by experienced Edmonton-based instructors who understand exactly what adult learners face, including the very specific pressures of studying while navigating financial instability.

You do not have to have it all together before you start. You do not have to feel ready. You just have to take the first step — which is reaching out to CIT and having a conversation about what your situation looks like and what program makes the most sense. We have helped people in every circumstance and we know how to work with you, not around you. Small cohorts, online and in-person options, and a team that genuinely cares about your outcome.

Your income support situation does not define your future. Your CAEC can help rewrite it. Register today or contact us to talk through your options — no judgment, no pressure, just real support.

If you want to enter a trades apprenticeship — electrical, plumbing, pipefitting, welding, heavy equipment, carpentry, or any of the dozens of trades that Alberta's economy depends on — you almost certainly need your high school equivalency first. The CAEC is that credential. And CIT has been helping Edmonton-area adults earn it for over 35 years.

Trades programs and apprenticeships at NAIT, Bow Valley College, and through Alberta's apprenticeship system require a high school completion or equivalent as a baseline requirement. The CAEC satisfies that requirement completely. It is the credential that opens the door — and CIT prepares you for every subject on the exam with flexible options that fit around your life. Full-time prep for those who want to move fast, part-time options for those balancing work or family, self-paced On Demand learning for those who need maximum flexibility, and one-on-one tutoring for any subject where you need extra support. Flexible payment plans available. Ask about funding options.

Our Edmonton-based instructors know exactly what trades-bound students need to succeed on the CAEC — and they deliver the preparation with real-world context that makes the material land. Math that connects to measurements and calculations you will actually use. English and reading skills that help you navigate technical manuals and workplace communication. Science that gives you the foundational knowledge your trades training will build on.

The trades are hiring. The pay is strong. The career is long. The only thing standing between you and the first day of your apprenticeship is your CAEC. CIT helps you get there. Register today.

Online and in-person options so you can choose the environment that feels least intimidating. And an on-site testing facility that reduces exam-day anxiety by making the environment familiar before the stakes are real. Flexible payment plans available. Ask about funding options.

The fear is real. CIT is the answer to it. Register today and let us prove that the version of you that earns the CAEC is already there — it just needs the right support to come out.

For most adults preparing for the CAEC, it is not every subject that feels overwhelming. It is one.

CIT's personalized CAEC tutoring sessions are designed around you — your specific gaps, your specific learning style, and your specific timeline. No group sessions where you have to keep up with the pace of others. No lectures covering material you already know. Just a focused, supportive, one-on-one session with an experienced Edmonton-based tutor who is there entirely for your success. Available online or in-person in Edmonton, on a schedule that works for you. Affordable rates and pay-as-you-go so you get exactly as much support as you need without committing to more than that. Flexible payment plans available.

The way CIT tutoring works is simple: you tell us where you are struggling, we assess where the gaps are, and we build every session around filling those gaps as efficiently as possible. No wasted time. No unnecessary review. Just targeted, effective support that makes the exam feel manageable rather than impossible. One-on-one tutoring has been shown to dramatically reduce exam anxiety as well — because confidence builds from competence, and competence builds from practice with someone who can catch your errors and correct them in real time.

You do not have to struggle through every subject alone. Book a tutoring session today and find out what focused, personalized support actually feels like.

If you have been putting off finishing your high school equivalency because you did not know where to start, this is your sign. In Alberta, the GED is now called the Canadian Adult Education Credential — the CAEC — and it opens the same doors it always has: post-secondary education, better employment, trades apprenticeships, and a credential that proves what you are capable of. Careers in Transition has been helping adults in Edmonton earn it since 1988.

CIT offers everything you need in one place. Full-time and part-time CAEC prep courses, online or in-person options, self-paced On Demand learning, one-on-one tutoring in any subject, and on-site testing at our Edmonton facility. Flexible payment plans are available, and funding may be available — ask us about your options.

What makes CIT different from studying on your own is the support structure. We have seen it all and we know how to help you through it.

Your CAEC credential changes what is possible. Whether your goal is a better job, a trades program, college, or simply proving to yourself that you can do it — CIT is ready when you are. Register today or reach out with any questions. No judgment, ever.

One of the most common reasons adults in Edmonton put off their CAEC preparation is schedule conflicts. Work. Family. Commuting. Life. We built our full-time program around that reality.

Our 20-week guided CAEC program is entirely online, which means you attend live instruction from your kitchen table, your living room, or wherever you have an internet connection. No commute. No childcare arrangements for a class downtown. Just show up at your computer at 9:00 AM and let our local Edmonton instructors bring the learning to you.

Adults across Alberta have completed our full-time CAEC program while managing careers, raising families, and navigating everything life throws at them. The online format provides the flexibility you need without sacrificing the structured guidance that makes the difference on exam day.

The July 13 intake is approaching. If schedule flexibility has been the thing holding you back from your Canadian Adult Education Credential, we have removed that barrier. Reach out today.
