UofAPS is an association for everyone at the University of Alberta with an interest in Palaeontology Membership is $5 for the academic year.

UAPS is the undergrad, graduate, and faculty association for those in palaeontology, or a related field, and is open to all who have an interest in vertebrate and invertebrate palaeontology, paleobotany, systematics, and evolution. UAPS offers social events throughout the academic year, the UAPS Lecture Series, fieldtrips, and hosts a biannual symposium.

Join us for the final speaker of our speaker series this academic year happening tomorrow, April 27th at 6 pm MST!

Jon Noad will be presenting on "Modes of Preservation". We hope you can join us to learn more about the many ways something can become a fossil!

Biography:
Jon Noad graduated in 1985 and started working as a mining geologist in South Africa. He returned to the UK to work in marine cable laying and completed a Masters and PhD. in Sedimentology, the latter in Borneo. He worked oil and gas including Middle Eastern exploration for Shell and several other senior oil roles in Calgary. He established a geology training company in 2017 and then joined Stantec in 2022 as Senior Palaeontologist, monitoring construction projects.

The Argentina-Canada Dinosaur Project and Megaraptorid Theropods

Dr. Philip Currie discusses the discovery and mysteries behind the enigmatic megaraptorid. With incomplete specimens, mostly southern distribution and highly debated phylogenetic relationships, there is so much to learn!

The RRR is is back! But this time we are going retro! The Retro Research Ramble will be taking place next Thursday, March 2nd at 6 PM MST at the BLAKBAR Tavern on Whyte Ave!

For this ramble we will be discussing:

Anatomical and Ecological Evidence of Endothermy in Dinosaurs, by Robert T. Bakker.

Give this short paper a read before coming to the event. Published in 1972, Bakker's paper will give us a chance to discuss how palaeontology has changed in the last 50 years.

- The Symposium will take place Saturday, March 25, 2023 at the University of Alberta
- Abstracts are due on March 5, 2023 at 11:59 pm MST
- Registration deadline to attend the presentation session and/or banquet is March 18, 2023 (more info on how to register will be shared soon)
