Meet the Forest Society’s members! This weeks member of the week is Sam Moody!
Sam is a 3rd year forestry student as well as a member of our exec team! He has spearheaded Tree sales for the past 2 years and dealt with most of the society’s fundraising. He’s worked for Weyerhaeuser in both Alberta and Saskatchewan and is headed to Smithers, BC with West Fraser this summer. In his free time he enjoys skiing, playing with his dog and riding horses with his Papa.

Come join us for the 4th Seminar of the 2023/2024 Seminar Series!
On Thursday January 11th from 3:00pm - 4:30pm in SAB 150, Guillermo Castilla will be presenting the use of drones in forest applications!
Guillermo Castilla is a Spanish Forest Engineer who specialized in Remote Sensing thanks to a fellowship in the European Space Agency. He integrates geospatial technologies, including drones, to map and monitor land cover, forest structure and composition, and natural and anthropogenic disturbances in support of forest ecosystems and climate change science and policy.
In this Seminar, he will briefly review the history and characteristics of drones, how to fly them safely, the type of sensors they can carry, and how can the data they capture be transformed into relevant information.

Announcing the end of our christmas tree sale! We would like to thank everybody for their support and the forestry students who volunteered there precious study time to sell christmas trees to fund the club and donate to the United Way charity. Today is the last day we will be open. Happy holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy new year, we will be back next year to supply you with beautiful live christmas trees.

Introducing the Forest Society’s member of the week, Luke!
Meet Luke Owen, a committed 3rd year forestry student at the University of Alberta. Having stumbled into forestry, he has found it a great program that combines his passions for technology, the outdoors and the sustainable management of our natural resources.
Luke is excited about becoming part of the next generation of foresters, whose goals are to innovate the forestry sector’s sustainable practices for the future generations to come.

This is Dustin Eisele-Lawrence. Not your typical first year forestry undergrad. This (usually) bearded Wildman works for the Government of Alberta as a forest officer in Lac La Biche. He's back to school pursuing an upgrade from an RPFT to an RPF!
