Interesting backgrounder to developments within ESL testing services, saying AI will unlock billions in profits for already rich companies.
But what about the workers?
I don't just mean teachers and assessors in English but in language training in EVERY LANGUAGE on the planet.
There are millions of us employed as language teachers and assessors in literally every language throughout the world, but our livelihoods seem to be coming rapidly to an end.
We, my colleagues, seem to be the dying canary in the coal mine. When it comes to AI and academics, let our demise be a warning.
It is a sad joke on us that the profits we generate through our professionalism and expertise are being used by the very companies we generate those profits for to make our professions/the way we support our families obsolete.
We are, even now, being displaced by AI while being pitted against each other in a race to the bottom in pay, as our already tenuous job security shimmers and evaporates like moisture in the heat of a server farm.
May the odds be ever in your favour.
AI 'not yet ready' for testing without humans
