The OLOP School Council has been made aware of the ECSD announcement to remove the French Immersion Program from Ecole Our Lady of the Prairies.

As members of the parent community, the OLOP SC also has concerns with this decision, the engagement process, and its impacts on families, staff and the community at OLOP. The OLOP SC is coordinating a formal response to the Department of Education Planning about this change and will be in touch directly with you, the parents, in our school community to guide that response.

French Immersion Program Changes at Our Lady of the Prairies Beginning September 2026, the French Immersion program at Our Lady of the Prairies Catholic Elementary School will relocate to Holy Cross Catholic Elementary/Junior High School.

ECSD is preparing to welcome students and staff back to our classrooms and school communities. We are grateful for the dedication of teachers and all staff in supporting student growth in a faith-filled learning environment.

Following the cancellation of classes, school council special events will be temporarily suspended until classes restart.

Families should plan ahead as we prepare for a potential province-wide teachers’ strike beginning Monday, October 6. If an agreement is not reached, classes will be cancelled, and students will not attend school in person or online until further notice.

Please arrange childcare plans starting Monday, October 6 and ensure that personal items are brought home by Friday, October 3. We remain hopeful for a resolution and will continue to keep families informed.
