Thank you for helping to spread the word, Ukrainian Dance World ❤️

Absolute magic… Ukrainian style! ✨🇺🇦

Nobody does Ukrainian storytelling quite like the Ukrainian Shumka Dancers and this Christmas, you can experience it in Shumka’s Ukrainian Nutcracker!

The elegance of ballet meets the energy of Ukrainian dance, with Ukrainian carols, beautiful costumes and enchanting sets bringing this beloved Christmas story to life.

A little wonder, a lot of heart, and a Christmas tradition to share with the whole family. ❤️

Today is the CIBC Run for the Cure. For 17 years, Shumka Alumni Girls (SAG) have participated and raised an estimated $150,000 in support of cancer research. The team began in honour of Shumka alumnist Shirley Smits (Doskoch) who lost her battle with breast cancer almost two decades ago. Over the years, other Shumka friends and family who suffered from this relentless disease, were also kept in the hearts and minds of those who walked, collected donations, and donated themselves. Shumka recognizes these valiant efforts of SAG and Friends whether running, raising awareness, or raising funds for the cause. Don't stop believing 💕

Truth and Reconciliation is not just a single day of remembrance. It is an ongoing commitment to listening and learning. What can you do? Support Indigenous artists, businesses and community events. Educate yourself on the history of the land you live on. Listen with an open heart and commit to the path forward.

As part of our community outreach programming, we are pleased to present “The Magic of Shumka: Behind the Scenes.” This one hour presentation is specifically for schools and is part of Shumka’s “Telling Stories Through Dance” educational matinee series.

Students and teachers are invited to step inside the beautiful Jubilee Auditorium and discover the energy, artistry, and excitement that bring a live dance performance to life. During our interactive matinee, students will experience the power of Ukrainian dance while getting a special behind-the-scenes look at everything that goes into creating a Shumka production.

These presentations usually sell out, so schools are encouraged to book their tickets now!

If you enjoy Ukrainian culture and music, you’ll love “Resonance: Ukrainian Roots. New Sound” on October 8 at 7PM at Festival Place in Sherwood Park. The concert features three very talented vocalists and Ukraine’s ShockolaD.
For those in the “Shumka Family,” you’ll want to see Ariana Whitlow (Zwozdesky). Ariana is the daughter of Shumka alumni (Christine (a Shumka Member with Distinction) and Gene (an Honorary Member and former Music Director of Shumka). Ariana is an alumnist herself, and a proud Shumka School Mom. All of that, plus a talented singer and amazing entertainer!
In addition to Ariana, you’ll see Anastasiia Kostiuk of Ukraine’s Gerdan and Marissa Karpiak of Edmonton’s Vohon. It's a fabulous line-up! Visit https://festivalplace.ca/ for more information and tickets.
