Take a walk on the wild side and learn how to live off the land! With Kinsmen Park as our home base, we’ll hike through the River Valley learning skills like shelter making, fire building, and edible plant identification. We’ll work together to find our way through the woods, stopping along the way to chill and enjoy nature!

The John Janzen Nature Centre remains closed due to a significant flood in April 2025 that was caused by a burst pipe. Repair work is underway and the Nature Centre is expected to reopen later this year. Nature Centre camps and programs have been relocated to other City of Edmonton facilities where space and staffing allow.

While the Nature Centre is closed for flood repairs, we are offering many of our school/group programs nearby at the Alfred H Savage Centre! We have plant & animal artifacts to see and touch and the amazing old growth forest to explore!

As you are aware, John Janzen Nature Centre experienced significant flooding in April when water infiltrated the building due to a broken pipe. There is considerable damage to both the building and its contents. Due to the amount of damage sustained, the building remains closed.

Nature Centre programs were moved to other available locations as much as possible during the extremely busy day camp season. We are grateful to our partners for providing space for us to continue to share our love of nature with your families and friends.

Work continues on the Nature Centre and we will keep you updated as things progress.

We're doing a pop-up plant sale this Saturday at the entry plaza Edmonton Valley Zoo ! It's your chance to pick up Alberta native plants and support the John Janzen Nature Centre . Limited stock — first come, first served. Cashless only.
