Congratulations to Alberta School Boards Association Vice-President and Black Gold School Division Trustee Devonna Klaassen on her appointment as the Alberta representative of the Canadian School Boards Association Board of Directors! This appointment recognizes Devonna's demonstrated commitment to public school education and Board governance, and we look forward to the contributions she'll bring to this role on behalf of school boards across the province.

Trustee Klaassen has been appointed to be the Alberta representative on the Canadian School Boards Association's Board of Directors. She also is currently serving as Vice-president of the Alberta School Boards Association.
“I am honoured to represent Alberta and bring forward the perspectives of school boards from across the province to the national table,” said Klaassen. “I look forward to working with colleagues across Canada to strengthen locally elected school board governance and support student success.”
Founded in 1923, CSBA represents elected governing school board members from provincial school boards associations across Canada. The association advocates for public education, promotes the value of locally elected school boards, and provides opportunities for professional development, research and collaboration.

This week is , running August 10–16, and it's a chance to show support for everything grown, made and harvested right here in Alberta.
Public school boards know that food connects students to their communities in powerful ways. That's why many public school divisions across the province offer various agricultural and culinary programs that leverage local foods grown close to home.

A student who raises their hand with an answer nobody else thought of. A teenager who starts a club because one didn't exist yet. A young person who sees the world not as it is, but as it could be.
Students aren't just the future. They're already shaping it.
Today is , a time to celebrate the children in our communities and all they've accomplished—and will achieve—in their lives.
Public school boards exist to honour those aspirations. Every classroom, every program and every educator is an investment in a young person's potential. With the new school year approaching, public schools across the province are excited to welcome students back.
Director Jan Sawyer details how focusing on governance helps make public school boards effective and what some of the characteristics of effective boards are.

Lights, Camera, School of the Arts! members had the opportunity to tour the Victoria School of the Arts. The school celebrates a solid literacy foundation, where the arts and academics are interconnected. Students think as critically in their arts classes as they think creatively in their academic classes.

For the final presentation of our August event, members heard from Kerri Murray, Executive Director at Ever Active Schools. Ever Active provides direct programming for children and youth, mentorship for school and community leaders, events that foster growth and learning, and resources that support well-being. We are happy to call Ever Active Schools one of our valued education partners in the province.

It was the Public School Boards’ Council meeting today! Member representatives from across Alberta came together to discuss topics important to public school education. The input gathered at these meetings informs our advocacy efforts and strategic direction throughout the year.
