Edmonton’s wet weather has forced many students to get creative to keep themselves entertained over the rainy summer. To that end, students enrolled in NorQuest College’s robotics summer camps have gone beyond gaming and vibe coding to create robots and program games that are truly unique.

Students at the recent NorQuest Robotics Camp spent five fun days exploring the worlds of robotics, coding, 3D printing and engineering, gaining practical skills while bringing their own robotic creations to life.

Designed as an introduction to technology and innovation, the camp combines classroom learning with hands-on activities to help participants build confidence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

"I wanted to try out robotics because my dad is an electrical engineer," says Nico Flores, one of the students who attended. "He said it was pretty fun, so I decided to try it out." When asked if the camp inspired him to pursue more learning in STEM, Nico is enthusiastic. "The camp was a really fun learning experience. It's like the first step to a bigger thing. I'm really excited to show my family and friends!"

Space is still available for our August camp—register today!

A look back at this year's President's Medal winner, Hugh Saunderson, at Convocation 2026.

Hugh was recognized with the President’s Medal for his outstanding commitment to service, leadership, and social justice. His path to social work was informed by lived experience with the barriers and stigma faced by individuals navigating health care, education, and social support systems. Hugh’s recovery journey shaped his empathetic approach to helping people facing substance dependencies, mental health struggles, and housing challenges.

After several years working in construction, Hugh made the decision to return to school, choosing social work as a calling that aligned with his values of empowerment, compassion, and meaningful service. During his time at NorQuest, he has demonstrated an inspiring commitment to lifelong learning, academic excellence, and cultural humility.

Hugh has contributed extensively through volunteer service with outreach organizations, the Rotary Club of Edmonton, and inner‑city agencies, as well as professional roles with Hope Mission and Lakeview Recovery Community. He is passionate about improving early interventions for young people to create more equitable and accessible systems.

NorQuest College's President's Medal is our college's highest student award, given to students who are true leaders in the classroom and community.
