In 2015, the school began with 1 teacher and 7 students. The same year our organization was accredited by Alberta Education and today we are functioning under the rules and regulations of the Private School Act of Alberta. This allows our students to finish their credits in order to graduate with a high school diploma. During 2016, E2 Academy became a charitable non-profit organization and began to receive funding from Alberta Education. The mission was to establish a first-of-its-kind centre of excellence in Alberta for the education of twice-exceptional children with complex needs, and to deliver a unique talent and strength-based program of instruction adapted to the needs of twice-exceptional learners. Today, our school has 20+ staff, 30+ school students, 30+ remote school students and our goal is to keep growing in order to provide more services to families in need of a specialized education. The students benefit from a strength-based program that offers individualized instruction that meets their intellectual, learning, and social-emotional needs. In 2020, we were approved for early childhood education (including PUF funding) that can accommodate up to 6 children. Our first pre kindergarten/kindergarten class started in the 2020/2021 year. In addition, E2 Academy was approved as a D.S.E.P.S. (Designated Special Education Private School) in 2020. This designation is one of only 2 awarded within the province of Alberta in the past 19 years. This celebrates our individuality and our dedication to providing education to the underserved twice exceptional population.
