September 30 marks the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day.
Today we wear Orange Shirts to commemorate the lives taken from their homes and the Survivors of Residential Schools. There were over 140 federally run residential schools between 1831 and 1996. Thousands of lives never made it back home, and some never left the schools. We recognize the 1800-plus unmarked burial sites discovered in recent years, and we mourn the significant loss many have suffered and the pain they continue to endure.
As Ukrainians in Canada, we owe much of our existence today to the Indigenous community. When Ukrainian settlers first came to Canada, Indigenous people helped them through the cold, harsh winters. Today, we support and mourn with Indigenous communities.

September 7 marked 130 years of Ukrainian-Canadian Heritage. To celebrate, we raised a flag at MacEwan University Clocktower alongside . Following the flag raising, we joined in a peace walk to the legislature building for another flag raising ceremony. Together, we sang, we listened to passionate speeches, and we came together to show support for our Ukrainian Sisters and Brothers.
Our very own Treasurer and VP of Marketing and Recruitment operated our Ukrainian booth during the Downtown Block Party on 108th Street in collaboration with the Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre of MacEwan.
Thank you to everyone who came out and made this significant day beautiful and supportive in cultivating a community of peace and love💙💛💙💛💙💛
