A round of applause is in order for our very own Dr. Emily Traynor!

As the recipient for the 2025 Dr. Michael C. Koilpillai Book Award, she has been recognized for outstanding academic pursuits, commitment, and personal qualities exemplary of the achievement’s namesake.

This award was established in the wake of Dr. Koilpillai’s untimely death i n 1989, while he was a resident in the Neurology program and is meant to honour his memory and his contributions not only to our Division, but to the more extended medical community.

Congratulations to our Family Medicine Research Department for receiving the 2026 Green Spaces Award! 🌲🌳🌿

As per the University of Alberta’s Sustainability Council:

“The Family Medicine Research team works to promote, support, create and disseminate research knowledge and scholarly activities in the discipline of family medicine. They have been Green Spaces Gold certified since 2024. Since they’ve first certified, they’ve worked hard to incorporate sustainable practices into many aspects of their operations.

In their most recent recertification, they completed all of the actions included in Green Spaces. They also went above and beyond, organizing lunch and learn sessions on reducing food waste and creating their own reusable beeswax wraps, and inventorying and digitizing their inventories of supplies and electronics in order to reduce purchasing waste.”

A round of applause for our Research Team! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
