Did Okinawan karate originally have sparring?

Short answer is no.

Quick answer is not formally, but informally they did practice some form of full resistance training.

Paul is a guy who spent 90% of his life doing Japanese and Brazilian jui jitsu.

But somehow this pure grappler kicks like a horse.

That's the head bjj coast of East-West Combatives for ya!

I loved the beef Brisket.

Yeah it's not a martial arts post.

But I figured it was worth highlighting.

Some body flow during mid and close range boxing drills focussing on evasion and trading in ranges other than long range.

From a self defense point of view it teaches surviving when someone closes and gets close on you swinging, and still be relaxed and evasive.

Kickboxing for MMA from an Okinawan karate perspective instead of what is typically Muay Thai.

Standing and ground grappling from a wrestling and grappling perspective instead of jui jitsu.

What context would you use a muay thai round kick and in what context would you use a karate round kick?

It's "Train MMA, Skip the cage" meaning I'm marketing to people who want to train MMA for self-defense.

But I still ended up training someone who wants to fight.

And he won his amatuer MMA fight via Rear naked choke.

So my head movement and rolling with punches isn't just reflexes.

It's different from conventional boxing, but it has a system.

Think the body flow stuff from chinese and Russian martial arts with the shoulder rolls of unconventional boxing.

In boxing you step when slipping, and I often do that too.

But using Chinese martial arts influence, I will rotate the the feet, knees and hips to slip instead of only steps.

Steps are better, but if you can't step, use rotation and pendulum of the body.
