The seminar and tournament day is over. We learned alot about improving the sharpness of our strike and setting up for backwards techniques (hikiwaza). Steve sensei managed to get second place in the open division too! All in all, a successful weekend!

A kendo referee seminar was held today among all the clubs in the Edmonton area. It was a great opportunity to learn the fine details of the role and practice them in mock matches. Many thanks to Sturgeon Kendo for hosting and Edmonton Kendo Club for supporting the event!

Congratulations to everyone who received certificates this week for their new ranks: Noel, Tomas, Yukiko for passing 1 Kyu, Andrea and Haruna for reaching 1 Dan, and Anton and Ajin for achieving 2 Dan. All the hard work has been met with success!

This past weekend, Strathcona had eight members grade for their next kendo ranks and all passed! The months of hard work have paid off. Congratulations to Andrea, Noel, Haruna, Tomas, Daniel, Anton, Ajin, and Yukiko!

Strathcona competed at the Alberta Open this past weekend. All our members fought hard during their matches against strong opponents! Our Junior teams placed second and third in their division and Yulia, our only non-bogu member placed third in her individuals. We all had a blast and are looking forward to next year! #

We are very grateful to have been visited by Kyle Lee sensei from Chinook Kendo Dojo last night. He gave us very practical lessons that will help us as we approach the competitions and grading events in the rest of the year. We will be sure to practice hard and build our spirit!
