Thanks so much to everyone who has signed up for the casino so far! We now need just a few more, including

1. a General Manager (sounds important, but is also easy and requires no past experience) for Saturday night, and

2. 2 cashiers for Sunday night (a chance to sign up with a friend). Please help get us over the hump and take some stress off our volunteer organizer! Remember that you have your choice of meal from the restaurants there, and they're big and delicious 😁

Good morning parents! The school is still urgently looking for volunteers for our casino fundraiser on Feb 26-27th. This is an absolutely essential event for us, and BY FAR the biggest money-raising event that benefits all of our kids. Over the 2 days, casinos in the past have raised $50,000 - $70,000 for the school 😮!

If you've never done it before, it's very easy. The casino employees do all the hard work. Almost everyone who does it enjoys it, and meets some fellow parents. Plus you get a free meal from their excellent restaurant!

Because of the large amount of money raised, each of our volunteers will be personally responsible for THOUSANDS of dollars donated to the school. So if you're looking to make an impact, this is the best possible way. Extended family members and friends are also welcome to volunteer (you may need to sign up for them).

This first meeting is also the Annual General Meeting where we elect the SAC/PA executives. Please consider putting your name in for the positions of Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and Treasurer. None of these require much work, and you'll be helping out all the kids in the school! You'll also be working closely with the principal and vice-principals, which may be of interest to you.
You will also have the help of our current execs to ease you into the positions. Although I reiterate: they're all very easy and require very little work.

"Your St. John XXII School Council Perogies fundraiser orders will be available for pick up on Wednesday, March 24 from 2:30 pm-4:30 pm. Parents have this two hour window of time to pick up their order from the truck the truck that will be parked in the front of the school parking lot. Please note that parents will not be able to enter the parking lot from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm as the school buses will be using this area. Please park on the street and walk into the parking lot to pick up your order. After 3:30 pm you can come into the front parking lot to pick up your orders."

Good morning parents. The St John XXIII School Advisory Council has a small favour to ask of you. It will take 2 minutes, and could be a big help in ensuring that your children's schools receive better funding in future government budgets. As you may know, all or most school board budgets have been significantly cut by the government. This is causing serious problems at almost all Alberta schools. Larger class sizes, reduced maintenance & equipment funds, and layoffs of teachers, educational assistants, & other staff are all things that are happening already.

These directly and negatively impact the education that your child receives, as well as the lives of affected school staff.

We would like you to go to this government survey as soon as possible, and enter your opinion on education funding:

THE SURVEY IS VERY SHORT, and if there's a huge outcry from the public demanding more money for education, there's a good chance that will happen. We recommend that you do it RIGHT NOW, or set a reminder for yourself, to avoid missing the February 7th deadline. We need as many voices as possible!

On Wednesday, January 22nd the grades 6-9 band students will be performing at West Meadows Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m. This year’s theme is “Name That Tune” Parents and family members are invited to attend. Individual students will also be performing between each group. We hope to see you all there!
