At Edmonton Islamic Academy, we teach our students that hate is never answered with more hate.

As Islamic schools continue to face anti Islamic rhetoric and threats, our response is to show our true colours: kindness, service, civic responsibility, and care for our neighbours.

Through this year’s Legends Run, our students partnered with C5 Northgate to support Edmontonians in need. Together, our EIA community raised nearly $2,000 and collected a van load of non perishable food.

This is what we want our students to understand: we are not simply members of a school community. We are members of Edmonton.

Civic duty, love, and kindness are the recipe for a better world.

Thank you to our students, families, staff, and C5 Northgate for helping us turn our values into action.

And thank you to CTV for sharing the story.

Every Child Matters 🧡

Today, we honour the children who never returned home, the Survivors, and the families and communities forever impacted by residential schools.

May we listen, learn, remember, and continue walking the path toward truth, healing, and reconciliation.

This week, National news reports indicated that several Islamic schools across Canada received threatening and derogatory anti-Islamic emails. While EIA was not among the schools targeted, the threats are being taken seriously by law enforcement, and we have seen heightened police patrols around our school as a precaution. (Global News)

Our students noticed.

And when students notice something like this, they look to the adults around them. They watch how we respond.

At EIA, despite practicing our obvious safety protocols, we respond by continuing to do what we have always done: shape young people who contribute to the communities they call home.

We teach our students to love their neighbours by shovelling their snow. To serve by volunteering at local shelters. To give by supporting food banks and charitable organizations. To build relationships across faiths, cultures and generations. And to care for vulnerable communities here at home and around the world.

This isn’t something we do occasionally. It is part of who we are. A part of our program.

To serve our neighbours and care for others. We don’t answer hate with hate or ignorance with ignorance.

We respond by continuing to serve.

Threats against Muslim schools and children have no place in Canada. Our students deserve to feel safe, proud and fully at home in the communities they call home.

At EIA, we have a responsibility to show them that they belong.

This past week, ElA Elementary Campus welcomed Aman Construction to judge our students’ projects and celebrate their hard work. A special thank you to the Aman Construction team for taking the time to visit, encourage our young builders, and bring candy prizes for all our students!

We are so proud of our students for showing us that learning about safety can be creative, engaging, and fun!
