Jigging has been such a medicine to me - I am Métis on my dad’s side and white settler on my mom’s side, and I didn’t grow up embedded in my Métis culture like all my cousins did. My cousins, aunties, uncles, grandparents, great grandparents, great uncles, and great aunties are beyond gifted musicians and dancers, born and raised in Buttertown (North Vermilion Settlement) Fort Vermilion & Beaver First Nation. I started dancing jig & jingle dress this year to help heal my nervous system and I could not be more grateful to my ancestors for guiding me here. Huge thank you to some of my teachers including Les Skinner , Kyle Durocher , Hugo Martel, and my cousin Kevyna Randle Lizotte for encouraging and teaching me.

Everything I do in my work, I think about my granny. I never had the pleasure of knowing her, but I have been lucky to hear stories of what a loving, kind, & fierce woman she was. Although she was never able to teach me, I hope I still carry traits from her that she is proud of. ❤️🪽🤎
