Today, E2 recognized Orange Shirt Day and the message that Every Child Matters. 🧡

A reminder that there is no school tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30, in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

We encourage our families to take some time tomorrow to learn, reflect, and honour residential school survivors, their families, and the children who never returned home.

There are a number of events happening around Edmonton and the surrounding area, including activities at Fort Edmonton Park, the Art Gallery of Alberta, the Royal Alberta Museum, and Audreys Books.

🏃‍♀️🏃 Tomorrow is our E2 Academy Terry Fox Run! 🍁

Terry Fox showed Canadians that disability does not define a person’s strength, determination, or ability to make a difference. That’s a message that feels especially meaningful to our E2 community. ❤️

Tomorrow, our students will take part in the Terry Fox Run and help carry on his incredible legacy while raising funds for cancer research.

Are you already dreading the phone call from school asking you to come pick up your child?

Maybe September has become a cycle of calls home, shortened days, missed work, school refusal, overwhelm, shutdowns, or simply wondering how your family can keep doing this every day.

Your child may learn, communicate, regulate, or experience school differently, and their current environment may not be meeting those needs.

There may be another option.

E2 Academy currently has 3 student spaces available for the 2026/2027 school year.

E2 Academy is a Designated Special Education Independent School in Edmonton specializing in twice-exceptional (2e) learners - students who have significant areas of strength alongside disabilities or support needs.

Our students may have diagnoses such as Autism, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, OCD, learning disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental differences.

At E2, we offer:

• Small class sizes
• Individualized and strength-based programming
• Special education teachers and learning facilitators
• Regular SLP and OT support
• A neuroaffirming environment
• A school community that understands that being capable and needing significant support can exist at the same time

A difficult start to September doesn’t mean the rest of the school year has to look the same.

Are you looking for a school where your child’s strengths are recognized, their individual needs are supported, and they can feel like they belong?

E2 Academy currently has limited spaces available in our elementary program for the 2026/2027 school year, and we are now booking school tours for interested families.

E2 Academy is a Designated Special Education School in Edmonton serving twice-exceptional (2e) students. Our students have a range of diagnoses and exceptionalities, which may include Autism, ADHD, Tourette syndrome, OCD, learning disabilities, and other neurodevelopmental differences. While our students may have significant support needs, they also bring incredible strengths, abilities, interests, and potential to the classroom.

With small class sizes, strength-based programming, individualized supports, and a neuroaffirming environment, we work to provide students with the support they need while giving them opportunities to build on their strengths.

Choosing the right school is a big decision. A tour is a great opportunity to see E2 in action, meet our team, ask questions, and learn whether our program might be the right fit for your child.

As we gear up for another school year at E2 Academy, our team is busy getting ready to welcome everyone back!

One important part of that preparation is making sure our staff are ready to support students with potentially life-threatening allergies. All E2 staff complete the Anaphylaxis in Schools training through AllergyAware.ca

The training helps school staff recognize the signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis, reduce allergy risks in the school environment, and respond appropriately in an emergency - including the use of epinephrine auto-injectors.

📧 Medication Administration and Anaphylaxis Action Plan forms were also circulated to families today. If your child requires medication at school or has an anaphylactic allergy, please check your email and make sure the appropriate forms are completed before school begins.

Just one of the many things happening behind the scenes as we prepare for a safe and successful school year! 💙

🎬 E2 Summer Meetup #2 - Movie Night! 🍿

We'd love for you to join us for our second E2 summer meetup!

🕕 6:10 p.m.
📍 Sherwood Park Cineplex

We'll be watching Spider-Man at the 6:10 p.m. showing, but there are several movies playing that evening, so feel free to choose whichever one is the best fit for your family. The goal is simply to spend some time together and enjoy a fun evening with our E2 community.

A few quick reminders:

🎟️ Tuesday is Cineplex's discount movie day, so we encourage families to purchase tickets in advance if possible.

🎟️ Cineplex accepts the Access 2 Card.

🎟️ Discounted tickets may also be available through Costco and AMA memberships.

As always, this is a casual, optional get-together, and families are responsible for supervising their own children throughout the evening.

We are heartbroken to learn of Parker Wells’ passing, and we are thinking of his family, loved ones, and community.

For many families in the E2 community, Parker’s story hits painfully close to home. We know children who may run when overwhelmed, hide when frightened, or communicate in different ways. These behaviours are not defiance, and they are not a reflection of how deeply a child is loved or cared for. His story is a reminder of how urgently our communities and systems must work to better understand and respond to the individual ways children experience the world.

We want to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts of Parker’s family, search teams, first responders, volunteers, and the many people who refused to give up hope.

We are thinking, too, of every child and family who has been deeply affected by Parker’s story, particularly those who understand how quickly a frightening situation can unfold.

Parker mattered. His life mattered. He deserved safety, dignity, understanding, and the chance to grow up surrounded by the love that was so clearly there for him.

Just a friendly reminder that our E2 Family Summer Meet-Up is happening this Friday, July 24, starting at 3:00 p.m. at Terwillegar Recreation Centre!

Whether you'd like to go swimming, visit the indoor playground, use the recreation facilities, or simply enjoy a coffee and chat in the lobby, we'd love to see you there. Feel free to arrive whenever you can after 3:00 p.m. and stay for as long as you'd like.

As a reminder:

- This is an informal family meet-up.
- Families are responsible for admission costs and for supervising their own child(ren).
- All City of Edmonton recreation centres accept Access 2 passes and admit support persons free of charge when required.
