Dental Hygiene Alumni Chapter Welcome to the official page for the Dental Hygiene Alumni Chapter! Upon graduation, dental hygiene alumni automatically become members of the DHAC.

Our mission is to facilitate relationships between alumni, students, faculty members and partners, and act as ambassadors for the UAlberta Alumni. Who We Are:

The Dental Hygiene Alumni Chapter (DHAC) represents all graduates from the University of Alberta Dental Hygiene Program. Our mission is to facilitate relationships between alumni, students, faculty members and partners, and act as ambassadors for the UAlberta alumni. The DHAC hosts events where alumni members can gather, network, and engage with one another and their alma mater. We also strive to create an engaged community of oral health professionals through mentorship, networking, resources and professional development opportunities. Additionally, we provide mentorship opportunities for students and aim to enrich the student experience. What We Do:

The DHAC hosts several events and activities per year, including:
Social activities for alumni
Continuing education courses for alumni
Mentorship and networking events
Welcoming graduates to our alumni community
Celebrating and supporting our students

Additionally, the chapter has established an endowed bursary, providing $900 a year to one deserving student.

We were delighted to have Dr. Leigha Rock join us during this year’s Dental Hygiene Alumni Chapter Reunion Reception and are excited to welcome her to the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry!

Dr. Rock joins us from Dalhousie University, where she served as an Associate Professor and Director of the School of Dental Hygiene. Bringing more than 20 years of clinical experience as a dental hygienist in British Columbia, along with a PhD in Craniofacial Science from the University of British Columbia and postdoctoral training in integrative oncology and cancer control, Dr. Rock brings a unique perspective spanning clinical practice, education, research, and leadership.

Her research through RockLab focuses on oral pre-cancer and identifying biological markers that may help predict which pre-malignant lesions are more likely to progress to oral cancer. Her work reflects a strong commitment to improving early detection and patient care while bridging the connection between clinical practice and research.

Dr. Rock also brings a strong passion for community engagement and is excited to build upon the Mike Petryk School of Dentistry’s longstanding commitment to outreach and accessible care. We look forward to the experience, research expertise, and passion for oral health that Dr. Rock will bring to our students, faculty, staff, and the broader community.

Welcome to the U of A, Dr. Rock! We are so excited to have you here!
