Venue Update for The Emperor’s New Clothes Concert This Saturday

We are moving concert this Saturday to St. Basil's Cultural Centre (10819 71 Avenue, Edmonton, AB).

St. Basil’s Cultural Centre offers great access, with a paved, free parking lot, ample street parking in the area, full accessibility for wheelchairs, a comfortable and cozy environment and a great acoustic. It is a stress-free experience to come to St Basil’s, just off 109 Street, behind St Basil’s Cathedral.

Korora Choirs

Kim Denis, one of Pro Coro Canada’s altos, is renowned for her energy and enthusiasm both on and off the stage. She is highly sought after as a soloist, vocal coach, choral clinician, and adjudicator for voice and choir across Western Canada. After earning both a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Music from Mount Allison University, she returned to Alberta to complete Master’s degrees in both choral conducting and vocal performance.

Kim has a flourishing voice studio at her own music school, the Purple Door Music Academy, and serves as a voice instructor at The King's University in Edmonton. She has conducted a wide variety of ensembles across the country and currently directs Shumayela (a choir for treble and changing voices, ages 11 to 16) with the Korora Choirs Association, as well as the Edmonton River City Chorus, a non-auditioned adult community ensemble. She is also the singing instructor for the Citadel Young Company and frequently leads workshops for music educators on working with developing voices. In addition to her work as an educator, conductor, and performer, Kimberley also arranges music for choirs.

A Voice Teacher Moment

Me: What song are you going to sing for the Mother's Day Recital? What song does your mom like?

Student: She doesn't really like my songs. She's into 80's heavy metal.

Me: Grab that 80's music book on the shelf beside you - let's see if we can find something.

Student: This one? 100 Greatest Hits of the 80's?

Me: Yup!

Student: It's huge! How many songs are in there?

Me: ...pause....100

Student: Makes sense.
