Two more tideline treasures were found during our clean up in Digby County! Do you know what these are?

Unfortunately, I am feeling under the weather... about as happy as I am in this picture where I show the pile of oil containers we picked up from the shorelines of Digby County this month.

I was supposed to be at the Kentville Farmers’ Market tomorrow but I need to take time to rest. I need to be in tip-top shape for our next big adventure to Seal Island.

There will still be lots of other great vendors there and hopefully some beautiful weather, too!

I went through the last of our data from the Second Annual Ann's Legacy Shoreline Clean Up and noticed something. This particular pile came from Big Cove on Brier Island in Nova Scotia, Canada 🇨🇦

What I noticed was a lot of the plastic bottles with the labels still attached were international travellers! One bottle looks to be from the Dominican Republic and four others appear to be from the USA 🇺🇸

This is neat because it illustrates that shoreline debris knows no boundries and the ocean is connected. Do you know how to tell the difference 🤔

The easiest way I have learned to identify the orgin of a plastic bottle is by looking at the return deposit accepted locations listed on the label. Keep an eye out!

We went to a lot of isolated places in search of marine debris and found tonnes! Which one is the most interesting to you?!

I'm home and happily exhausted after two weeks off-grid with over 20 different amazing folks cleaning the shorelines of the Digby Neck and Islands.

Pictured here is some of the haul we diverted from the landfill, as well as what our SECOND dumpster looked like after almost completely filling it. We also were able to get over 20 reuseable buoys, 15 crates and 2 large fish bin tops back into service!

There's just a bit more data to collect, then we will have the final numbers for the second Annual Ann's Legacy Shoreline Clean Up! This year we really focused on individual counts, rather than just weight. Stay tuned!

We are wrapping up the Second Annual Ann's Legacy Shoreline Clean Up and crunching numbers!

We are lucky that a second dumpster came because its going to be full by the time we go through everything. We try REALLY HARD to divert as much as we can from our clean ups. Some items that head to our dumpster are:

⛔️ Polystyrene & styrofoam
⛔️ Broken balloon buoys
⛔️ Film plastics
⛔️ Mixed materials items
⛔️ Rubber pieces
⛔️ Polyester and leaded rope
⛔️ Shoes, boots & balloons

Then we top it off with lobster traps and metal so those items get removed before the landfilling happens!

It is Friday so time for another data update!

We hit the 1.9 million pound mark for our lifetime total! Any guesses on when we will hit 2 million?
