There is something profoundly humbling about the moment a child decides you are one of their safe places.

As adults, we often forget how big and overwhelming the world can feel to someone who is only three feet tall. For a young child, giving their trust isn't automatic—it’s built in the smallest, quietest moments.

It’s in the way they reach for your hand without looking when they feel unsure.

It’s the way they lean their head against your shoulder when they’re tired.

It’s the sudden, unprompted hugs, the shared secret giggles, and the way their eyes light up when they run to tell you something exciting that happened to them.

To be an extra adult in a child’s circle—someone outside their immediate family whom they know, without a shadow of a doubt, will keep them safe, listen to them, and care for them—is one of the greatest privileges in life.

It takes a village to raise a child, but being trusted enough to be a meaningful part of that village? That is absolute magic. ❤️✨

With the poor air quality these past few days, the littles have been exploring more of my gross motor equipment and engaging in lots of different movement breaks such as Keepy Uppy, Danny Go!, and good old bubble dance parties. We've also been working through a camping theme including puzzles and painting, we even turned the play area into a big tent one day and everyone gathered toys to play inside of it ☺️

To My Dearest Little Sprouts,

It feels like just yesterday that you walked through my door with your tiny hands, big curious eyes, and endless energy. Now, the time has come for some of you to take a giant leap into kindergarten, and while my heart is so incredibly proud, a little piece of it is sad to see you go.

Looking at the photo, where all of our hands are joined together wearing our bright, colorful, beautiful bracelets, I am reminded of how closely our lives have been woven together. Each bead on those bracelets represents a memory we shared—a day full of laughter, a new discovery, a sensory mess we proudly made, or a moment where you tried something hard and didn't give up.

Every single day, you brought so much joy, light, and wonder into my world. Thank you for sharing your big imaginations, your sweet hugs, and your endless curiosity with me. We have danced, painted, explored, and grown together, and I have truly loved being a special part of your story.

As some of you put on your big-kid backpacks and walk into your new classrooms come September, I want you all to remember a few very important things:

- You are capable of amazing things. Never be afraid to try, to ask questions, and to learn.

- Your kindness is your superpower. Keep sharing your smiles and being a wonderful friend, just like you were here.

- You will always have a place in my heart. No matter how big you get or how far you go, you will always be one of my special sprouts.

Kindergarten is going to be such a grand adventure, and I know you are going to absolutely shine. Thank you for making my days so bright. I am going to miss you more than words can say!

We have been busy over here! Over the past 2 months we have talked about birds, bugs, and now island life (even pirates 😱). We have created lei's, used puffy paint as sunscreen on our cutout people, created a cafe outside, counted our bounty, used shape blocks to make bug pictures, and cheered on our big kids at their Track and Field day.

This week we will celebrate our pre-schoolers as they graduate and prepare for 'big school' (I'm not ready to say good bye, thankfully it is only see you later!) and get ready for some summer time fun!

Some of the most beautiful flowers do not arrive in glossy white boxes from the florist, but instead are offered to us by small hands grubby from play... The stems may be short, the blossoms may be dropping, the flowers themselves what some people call weeds ~ but when given with love, a dandelion will outshine the most perfect long stemmed rose.

I am always so grateful for every flower, leaf, stone or stick shared with me because I know in their little world, those are the treasured pieces of their hearts.

Snip, Snip, Hooray! ✂️
One of the most exciting milestones in the preschool years is the moment a child picks up their first pair of safety scissors. While it might make some parents a little nervous, learning to use scissors is a foundational skill that builds so much more than just a craft project!

Using age-appropriate, blunt-tip scissors is a fantastic way to boost fine motor development. It requires children to use their thumb, index, and middle fingers independently—the same muscles they’ll eventually need for a mature pencil grip.

Why We Love Cutting Practice:

Hand-Eye Coordination: Guiding the scissors along a line or toward a target requires the brain and hands to work in perfect harmony.

Bilateral Coordination: Cutting teaches kids to use both sides of their body at once—one hand holds and turns the material, while the other does the "chomp-chomp" with the scissors.

Focus and Patience: It’s a workout for their concentration!

Thinking Outside the Paper Box 📦
We don't just stick to paper! Exploring different textures makes the "work" feel like play and builds different levels of hand strength:

Playdough: This is our favorite starting point! It’s thick and provides resistance, which helps strengthen those tiny hand muscles. Plus, "snakes" are very easy to snip into "pepperoni" slices.

Cardstock or Old Cereal Boxes: These are sturdier than regular paper, making them easier for beginners to hold upright without the material flopping over.

Nature Finds: Snipping dry leaves or blades of grass is a sensory delight and a great outdoor activity.

Yarn or Straws: These require a bit more precision and are great for practicing that "one-clip" motion.

Next time you see your little one working hard with their safety scissors, know that they aren't just making a mess—they’re building the strength and coordination they’ll use for a lifetime!

🐢 Turtle Power & Tiny Hands! 🐢

We had so much fun today bringing the poem "There Was a Little Turtle" to life! While the kids loved the story of the turtle snapping at mosquitoes and minnows, we used the activity as a "sneaky" way to work on some big developmental milestones using simple clothespins.

Here’s why we’re big fans of the humble clothespin for toddler play:
- Fine Motor Mastery: Squeezing those clips is a major workout for tiny fingers! It strengthens the pincer grasp, which is the foundation for holding a pencil and using scissors later on.
- Following Directions: As we read the poem, the children had to listen carefully to identify which character came next—the mosquito, the flea, or the minnow—and then find the matching card to "catch" with their clip.
- Patience & Turn-Taking: With everyone eager to "snap" their clips like the little turtle, it was a wonderful opportunity to practice waiting for our turn and cheering on our friends.

Watching them concentrate so hard on "catching" those little cards was the highlight of our morning! It’s amazing how a simple household item can turn a poem into a full-body learning experience.
