Week #2
Dear Families,
We were thrilled to see students and families our first week back. It was a calm and positive start to the year, and we look forward to continued opportunities for learning, growth, and joyful experiences.
Schools in SD 79 need to have a flexible start up until student numbers are confirmed and final school placements are established. Our school has over 20 new students! We will be rebuilding classes to ensure each child has the most optimal learning environment possible. We have a plan that will allow students to engage in meaningful learning and relationship building until class lists are finalized.
Monday, September 14th – until permanent classes are finalized
Students will start with their previous year’s teacher but then move into a larger learning pod with 3 or 4 teachers. Each student will have a “home team” with a “home teacher” and will rotate through lessons with other students and teachers in their pod. This will give each student a chance to connect with a variety of peers and three or four other teachers, expanding their circle of support. We will also be mixing up these groups of students as well, so they will have a chance to interact with a variety of peers.
There will be a focus on literacy, numeracy, and place-based learning. As well, we will be reviewing our Code of Conduct and expectations, fostering a safe and inclusive culture..
Students will go to their previous year’s teacher’s door on Monday but then will start and end each day with their home teacher. This will be shared with parents on Monday.
Please note: these are not permanent placements. Please be assured that this delay is for the benefit of all students and is aimed at creating an optimal learning environment. We appreciate your understanding and patience during this time.
Students in Kindergarten will follow the gradual entry schedule that was mailed home in July. Please contact the school if you have any questions regarding the kindergarten gradual entry process.
Sincerely,
Nicole Davey, Principal
Derrien Neubauer, Vice-Principal
