Larchwood Public School is a Junior Kindergarten to Grade 6 English program school. It is a small, friendly community school where everyone knows each other and is located in Dowling. Larchwood Public School originated from the pupils from small schools which were in the area. The schools were New Cobden, Pine Grove, Errington, the Blue School, the two Bridge Schools and P.S.S #1 Fairbanks and Cre

ighton. At Larchwood, we endeavour to provide a safe and caring environment that promotes learning in an atmosphere in which students are encouraged to strive for excellence. As facilitators, we are committed to providing opportunities for our students to develop skills and attitudes required for a challenging and successful future. It is only through a cooperative effort among community, staff and students that our children become productive members of society. Recently our school community has received provincial recognition for their efforts related to achievements in mathematics, reading and writing. The students at Larchwood Public School are actively involved in many teacher-run co-curricular activities throughout the year. Basketball, volleyball, track and field, king’s court, four square, gaga ball, slo-pitch and cross country running are some of the ways our students keep active, fit and involved. We are the Larchwood Lasers and we strive to play fair and have fun. Larchwood Public School also offers students other opportunities outside the classroom. Public speaking, Heritage Fair, choir, robotics, and the Legion’s poetry, essay and poster contests are some of the ways students get to demonstrate their talents and abilities

Developing a Growth Mindset is an important part of the curriculum at Larchwood Public School. Ensuring our students develop resiliency and perseverance is something we value greatly. A growth mindset will serve our students well during their time at Larchwood and for the future. Fundraising efforts will continue this year in order to enhance student activities and build on our amazing school yard. Many new ideas and initiatives are being shared and discussed at our regular meetings and we are always encouraging all parents to join in at any time. The School Council is an important advisory body. As partners in education, the School Council is committed to ensuring that Larchwood Public School promotes a strong positive image in the community. The use of technology is an integral part of our education here at Larchwood. Chromebook, iPads and programmable robots are a regular part of our academic activities. The staff at Larchwood Public School is a dedicated and enthusiastic group of professionals who are dedicated to providing a quality education for all students.

Today marks National Indigenous Peoples Day.

In 1982, the First Peoples of Canada, through their collective voice within the Assembly of First Nations, advocated for the recognition of a national Indigenous solidarity day. This day would acknowledge unity amongst Indigenous Peoples in Canada, reinforce harmony, and strengthen the efforts of a nation-to-nation partnership with the federal Government of Canada.

In 1996, the Governor General of Canada designated June 21st as National Aboriginal Day, and in 2009, the House of Commons passed a motion to declare the month of June as National Indigenous History Month.

National Indigenous History Month is an opportunity for all Canadians to actively learn about the achievements and innovations of Indigenous Peoples, and to gain an understanding of the Indigenous lands and territories that we are situated. It is also an opportune time for all Canadians to recognize and join in the celebrations of the resiliency and strength of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples in Canada and the Anishinabek within this territory.

The Anishinaabek Nation also proclaimed June 6th as Anishinaabe Giizhigad to annually recognize the sanctioning of the Anishinaabek Chi-Naaknigewin - Anishinaabek Nation Constitution.

We are encouraged to learn more about Indigenous Peoples, particularly the Anishinaabek and the traditional territory where Rainbow District School Board is situated, observe and appreciate Indigenous ways of knowing, and attend one of the many community events that recognize and celebrate the importance of National Indigenous Peoples Day.

Happy Father’s Day to all of our Lasers celebrating today! Enjoy your special day! 💙⚡️💛

Today, our students put their teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills to the test during our Summer Escape Room House Family activity. Each family worked together to solve 12 puzzles in order to “escape” from the school. We are happy to report that every team was successful - meaning no one will be stuck at school for the entire summer! 😎
