Dorval Preschool Co-op

The Dorval Preschool Co-op is a non-profit, bilingual, parent-run, cooperative preschool. We offer “learn through play” programs for 3 and 4 year olds.

The Dorval Preschool is a parent-run cooperative preschool operating out of the Community Centre since 1958. The preschool is administered and maintained by the parents on a non-profit, non-sectarian basis. The children attend Monday through Thursday from 9am - 12pm. We employ two Early Childhood Educators who plan and coordinate our program. They are aided by a creative movement specialist. Parents or other caregivers have a unique opportunity to assist the teachers on “duty days” which average once or twice a month depending on enrollment, and experience learning with their child. It is also a chance to see how your child interacts in the classroom. Together, with the teachers, we provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for our children through various activities that ease them into the school system. By being active participants in the program, parents send a strong message to their children that they care about their educational experience. Among the benefits of a cooperative is that the families themselves manage the school. The cooperative involvement of parents benefits the children, and offers the parents the opportunity to share ideas and build friendships. We have seen through the years how our coop fosters a sense of community for the children as well as for ourselves.
