Dear 21inc. network,
The Indiegogo campaign concluded yesterday with a total of $14,405 raised. Thank you to all those who generously contributed towards the future of 21inc. The campaign provided for us the means to move forward and to implement the plan that Vanessa and the Board developed over the past months to set 21inc. onto a healthy and strategic path as we enter our second decade.
We look forward to providing you more details following our Board meeting today. Stay tuned!
Hey Gang! The Governance Renewal committee meeting scheduled for today at noon is delayed until next week. We're focusing our efforts on the final week of the IndieGoGo campaign. (From Lisa)

Hey 21incers,
Apologies from the 21inc Board for the social media silence, we've had our heads down trying to manage 21inc's time-sensitive financial challenge. We've been keeping people in the loop via the Town Halls, but have heard from some of you that you'd like more information via FB.
My fellow board member Danielle LeBlanc and I will do out best to keep all of you in the loop while balancing the need for confidentiality on some of 21inc's most critical files. The bottom line is this: 21inc's future is dependent on a successful fundraising push over the next 10 to 14 days.
21inc is now a volunteer-run organization and in the immediate term we are asking you, our network members, to join with the board to help find solutions to 21inc's serious challenge.
We have created three committees to help carry the load:
- Fundraising, led by Mike Fitzpatrick
- Board Governance Renewal, co-led by Aimée Chow, Duncan Harvie and Lisa Hrabluk
- Communications, co-led by Danielle LeBlanc and me.
Committee members will be briefed on the current situation so we can get to work. If you have an interest in working with us to address 21inc's immediate challenge please contact me or Danielle we'll direct you to the committee leads.

Chers membres 21inc.,
HELP WANTED: Hey gang looking for a few good communicators to keep the news flowing on 21inc's digital channels - Twitter, FB, website and the e-newsletter. The team MUST have French-language capabilities, which I obviously do not. At our meeting this morning, the board created a communications committee. Message me on FB or via email at [email protected]

Today is Vanessa Paesani’s final day as 21inc’s full-time executive director. The board is unanimous is expressing our deep gratitude, respect and affection for Vanessa’s herculean efforts to help solve 21inc’s financial and structural challenges and position it for a sustainable second decade. In order to make that transition, 21inc will need to be a volunteer-run organization and we will begin this new chapter with a video town hall on Monday May 2 at noon (link below). That town hall will update our members on the state of the board’s work over the past week and will be primarily focused on inviting members to join two new board committees to help design and manage the two foundational pieces for 21inc’s transformation: fundraising and governance renewal.
The work of both committees is anchored in the work begun by Vanessa. She has provided us with a great roadmap; it is now time for our network to move it forward.
In addition to Vanessa, the 21inc board has also ended its contract with Marina Wright, 21inc’s bookkeeper. The board thanks Marina for her work and are happy to recommend her to anyone in need of an efficient and unflappable bookkeeper.

21inc'er, Andrew Button, on the importance of starting!
“There’s a fixation around high-growth technology startups and the idea of creating a billion-dollar company,” said Andrew Button, founder of Mashup Lab, CO3, and the South Shore chapter of the Awesome Foundation.
“I believe we need to have audacious goals like that, but we also need to fill the pipeline. In communities where we have 10 companies with growth potential, we need to have at least 100.”
NowNS: The business of expanding possibilities for rural entrepreneurs There are a lot of people in communities all over Nova Scotia who’ve given serious thought to what change looks like. Whether they’re curious about improving their own lives or changing the economic trajectory of the entire province, they’re likely to engage in big thinking.

Great interview with 21inc'er, Akram Al-otumi, on his diverse involvement since arriving in Nova Scotia.
“I came to Nova Scotia when I was 19,” he said. “I worked. I was very social. I did my best to integrate, to understand the culture. It wasn’t easy, but after a few years I felt at home.”
ENTREVESTOR: 3D Next co-founder Al-otumi aims to expand community, startups With his focus on entrepreneurship, new technologies and immigration, Akram Al-otumi is working hard to grow the population and economy of Nova Scotia, his adopted home.
