Painting fun! S used the sponge letters to paint his name. L is learning orientation of the letters and is identifying them. The end result was a 'pancake with my name inside' from S and 'letter pancake dough' from L. They loved it!

It's letter 'r' today on this cold but sunny day! Why not practice some hopping too 😄

With the numerous disruptions to our children’s education since Covid hit, are you concerned that your child is falling behind in school? Are you worried about your child’s reading and writing skills? Do you feel that your child may be developing gaps in certain areas?

I hear you! I worry a lot about my young son too. This has led to the opening of Darwin Academy Early Learning Centre Inc. – I have converted my basement into a full-time classroom, and I am delighted to welcome new students! I am a well experienced teacher with multiple skill sets able to provide English language and literacy support to students in need, at very affordable rates!!! I am also a wife and full-time mother to two children under 6. I am located in Dieppe, and have converted my walk out basement into a large, beautiful, rich learning environment which children will enjoy being in. I will work with only two students at a time to ensure maximum support for your child (and to minimize exposure risks). I am fully certified in multiple curricula and have completed all my criminal record checks. I am ready to provide support to your child in the following areas:
• Alphabet recognition, naming, and phonics
• Reading – decoding, sight words, comprehension, fluency, expression
• Writing – writing letters, sounding out words, sentence/paragraph structure, grammar, conventions, voice, expression
• New to English – lots of vocabulary, simple words/phrases to communicate, comprehending instructions and directions, understanding academic language, building sentences, listening and speaking, confidence
• Pre-kindergarten skills – an introduction to all the letter sounds (Jolly Phonics), fine motor skills, pre-reading skills, social skills, following instructions and directions. (NOTE: this is only available to children starting school in 2022, and they must be fully potty trained.)
• Enrichment program – a variety of activities and skills that will extend the student’s learning beyond grade level expectations (for those kids who need a little bit more!)

S is also practising his fine motor skills. This helps him with pen control and coordination.

L is working on her fine motor skills to build strength and coordination. These activities will help her with proper pencil grip and control later on.

L is in preschool. She is learning the sound of the letter 'H' and is able to identify it, build a model of it, and match the lower case and upper case. L is also learning the letters in her name and how to write them!

S is in Kindergarten! This week he worked on the sound of letter 'H' and the sight word 'the'. He also practised writing his name and writing the letter 'e' which he has trouble with!
