This work is best done at a slow speed.
Trying to deflect, or better yet, catch an incoming kick requires a fair amount of practices.
Timing requires the student to be able to first time themselves with themselves.
Distance is key so you maintain some level of freedom of movement.
Placement requires proper positioning and forecasting of where bodies and limbs will find themselves.
Speed- you need to be able to match the delivery speed.
Lots on the go!

Every Dojo needs a shrine.
A space to reconnect with those who have passed on.
A space to seek direction and guidance.
A space to look up in the sky and pray.
A space to cleanse.
A space to honour ancestors. A
A space to show respect for those who came before us.
A space to surrender.
I love our little Shrine.

A giant of a Man.
An incredibly tough human.
Training with Sergey, a Master of Sports from the old Soviet era, a black belt in judo, was always humbling, yet always fun and positive.

Rest in peace brother.
We will keep you in our thoughts and heart.
So many good memories!

Instinctive work doesn’t mean “whatever” work. Instincts need to be cultivated and maintained. They need to be freed of fear, anger and lower vibrations, and replaced with faith, self belief, goodness and love. Even in the face of the worse violence.

Throwing on the move.

After years of teaching over a thousand students, I have seen a resurgent pattern: students do 90% of the work, and give up within the last 10%.
The idea of BELIEVING in yourself and your movements is simple but not easy.
Believing doesn’t mean working harder or more intensely.
It is made of 4 distinct but connected elements:
1) Be clear with yourself. If you aren’t clear with what it is that you are trying to accomplish, why would you intention be transmitted into whomever or whatever it is that you are trying to influence.
2) Do not give up. Stay the course. Maintain direction and remain firm and focused in your belief and intention.
3)Be a little bit more patient. People tend to give up just a little too early. Their psyche gives up, because they don’t believe that what they are doing is working.
4)Avoid tensing up more than necessary. Work with the least amount of tension, strength and force. Stay gentle, but firm. Draw you power from your inner state. BELIEVE in what you are doing.
This applies to every facet of life. If you can master this kinetically, it will symptomize in every aspect of your life.
