🚒 𝗙𝗜𝗥𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 𝗪𝗘𝗘𝗞! 🔥

Today we welcomed members of the 𝗢𝗻𝘀𝗹𝗼𝘄 𝗕𝗲𝗹𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁 𝗙𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗮𝗱𝗲 to our school for a special Fire Prevention Week visit.

After taking part in our fire drill, firefighters visited classrooms to talk with students about fire safety and what to expect if they ever encounter firefighters during an emergency.

📸 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝗣𝗿𝗲-𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 had a chance to meet the firefighters, get a close-up look at their equipment and protective gear, and hear some of the sounds that firefighters and their equipment make.

Helping our youngest students become familiar with what firefighters look and sound like when they’re fully geared up can make a big difference in an emergency.

A big thank you to the Onslow Belmont Fire Brigade for spending time with our students today and helping them learn about fire safety! 🚒 ❤️

Today is Treaty Day and October is Mi'kmaw History Month! 🧡

Today is Treaty Day, and this year marks 40 years since Grand Chief Donald Marshall Sr. proclaimed October 1 as a day to honour the unique relationship between the Mi’kmaq and the Crown. Treaty Day is a day of celebration, and an opportunity to learn more about the Mi'kmaq and the rich stories of who they are & their lived experience.
Treaty Day also signals the start of Mi’kmaw History Month, a time to learn about Mi’kmaw culture and heritage. This year’s Mi’kmaw History Month theme, Nepisulti’k – We Are Healing, is inspired by the teachings of the late Elder Murdena Marshall.

🏃‍♀️❤️ 𝗖𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗔𝗡𝗢𝗜𝗦… 𝗪𝗘 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗜𝗧! ❤️🏃‍♂️

The donations have officially been tallied from our 𝗧𝗲𝗿𝗿𝘆 𝗙𝗼𝘅 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗥𝘂𝗻, and once again, our little school has absolutely blown us away.

🥁 𝗢𝘂𝗿 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟲 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗶𝘀…

❤️ 𝗔 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗣𝗣𝗜𝗡𝗚 $𝟴,𝟯𝟲𝟬.𝟳𝟱! ❤️

For a small school of approximately 160 students, that number is truly staggering.

Year after year, our students, families and community show just how much can happen when a small school comes together for something bigger than ourselves. The amount Chiganois has raised for the Terry Fox Foundation over the years is remarkable, and this year has added another 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 $𝟴,𝟯𝟬𝟬 to that incredible legacy. ❤️

And, of course, we can't forget one very important detail…

🥧 𝟯𝟵 𝗦𝗧𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧𝗦 raised $100 or more!

Which means…

😂🥧 𝟯𝟵 𝗪𝗛𝗜𝗣𝗣𝗘𝗗 𝗖𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗠 𝗣𝗜𝗘𝗦 will be flying on 𝗢𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗯𝗲𝗿 𝟵𝘁𝗵! 🥧😂

That's a whole lot of brave staff members taking pies to the face for Terry! 😂

To every student who collected donations, every family who supported them, and every person in our community who donated — 𝗧𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗞 𝗬𝗢𝗨. ❤️

We are so incredibly proud of our Chiganois community.

❤️ $𝟴,𝟯𝟲𝟬.𝟳𝟱 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱.
🥧 𝟯𝟵 𝗽𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴.
🏫 𝗢𝗻𝗲 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹.

𝐈𝐌𝐏𝐎𝐑𝐓𝐀𝐍𝐓 𝐑𝐄𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐄𝐑 — 𝐒𝐂𝐇𝐎𝐎𝐋 𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐒

As previously communicated on 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟏𝟎𝐭𝐡 and again in our 𝐒𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝐧𝐞𝐰𝐬𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫, Chiganois Elementary’s office hours have changed for the 2026–27 school year.

𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐇𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬:
Monday–Friday
𝟗:𝟏𝟓 𝐚.𝐦.–𝟏:𝟎𝟎 𝐩.𝐦.
𝟏:𝟒𝟓 𝐩.𝐦.–𝟑:𝟑𝟎 𝐩.𝐦.

We want to clarify what these reduced office hours mean for families.

The school office and telephone are staffed 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 only. There is no one in the office before 9:15 a.m., between 1:00–1:45 p.m., or after 3:30 p.m.

This also means that if you need to 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐮𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐝𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥 𝐝𝐚𝐲, arrangements need to be made for a time when Mrs. Keizer is in the office and available to let you into the building.

We understand this is different from what families have been accustomed to in previous years. 𝐎𝐮𝐫 𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐥’𝐬 𝐚𝐝𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐞𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐠𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥, and as a result, we simply do not have office coverage outside of the hours listed above.

We appreciate everyone adjusting to the change and helping us work within our new office schedule.
