Happy first birthday, Portavia!🎉

One year ago today, Portavia opened its doors in Dawson Creek. ☕️

For NLC alumna Nina Lou Carta, opening the café was the realization of a dream she and her husband had carried with them from the Philippines.

After completing her Post-Graduate Diploma in Business Management – Health Administration at NLC, Nina took what she learned in the classroom and put it to work building a business (and a new life) in Dawson Creek.

Today, we’re celebrating one year of Portavia and the journey that brought Nina here.

Education is a journey that begins long before graduation and continues throughout life.

Today, on National Support Public Education Day, we're celebrating the educators, staff, and communities who help learners discover their potential every step of the way. From elementary classrooms to hands-on learning, graduation, and beyond, education opens doors to new opportunities, meaningful careers, and stronger communities.

For many NLC alumni, that journey has led to becoming skilled professionals, entrepreneurs, mentors, and community leaders. Behind every graduate is a network of educators, staff, and supporters who believed in their potential and helped them succeed.

It's never too late to pursue a new dream. 💙

Meet Rayven Maulion De Ocampo, an NLC alumnus whose educational journey at Northern Lights College began with the Applied Business Technology Office Assistant Certificate, allowing him to balance work, family, and his studies. After finding success in his career, a personal experience inspired him to return to NLC and pursue the Health Care Assistant Certificate.

His story is a reminder that it's never too late to invest in yourself, change career paths, and make a difference in your community.
