What a summer!

As we welcome autumn, we are proud to celebrate the success of this year's summer youth programming!

With the support of our valued funders and partners, we delivered the NSAA Skilled Trades Camp and the Youth Employment and Strategic Initiative Program, providing our young people with opportunities to:

Gain hands-on experience and connect with employers
Explore career pathways in the skilled trades
Develop essential skills for future employment
Build connections with their peers through Africentric teachings centred on community, unity, and collective work and responsibility.

A heartfelt thank you to our funders, partners, employers, and everyone who helped make these programs possible.

Together, we are creating opportunities for our youth to learn, grow, connect, and thrive.

We are pleased to share an update on our ongoing work to strengthen The Africadian Empowerment Academy’s financial systems and practices.

With funding support from our funders, Foundation of Black Communities, we are working to improve our financial workflows and processes while advancing the completion of our 2024 financial audit.

As part of this work, AEA has:

✔️ Engaged financial consultants to support the strengthening of our financial systems and processes
✔️ Provided capacity-building training for our finance staff
✔️ Continued work toward completing the 2024 audit
✔️ Been reviewing and improving our financial workflows to support stronger documentation, accountability, and reporting

This project is ongoing, and we look forward to continuing this important work to build stronger internal systems that support the long-term sustainability and effective delivery of AEA’s programs.

We are grateful to our funders for investing in the organizational capacity behind the work we do in our communities.

Stronger systems. Greater accountability. Sustainable impact.

The Africadian Empowerment Academy is happy to let you all know we will be hosting an information session about the Pathways to Red Seal Program. The session will be virtual and will take place on Tuesday Septemebr 22, 2026 from 6:30 p.m. - 7:45 p.m. To register, all you need to do it scan the QR code on your phone and fill out the form. If you would like to register another way, than please do not hesitate to use the contact information on the flyer to recieve the registration link.

This October marks 10 years since I was appointed to the Senate of Canada.

WE'RE HIRING !!!

It was a pleasure to visit the Africadian Empowerment Academy Youth Trades Camp on Friday at the Woodlawn Library.

Students aged 11–15 from the Cole Harbour area spent the week exploring a variety of skilled trades through hands‑on activities, inspiring guest speakers like Fred Crawley RSC, and visits to local trade sites.

Funded by the N.S. Apprenticeship Agency, Youth Trades Camps are running throughout July in Dartmouth, Cole Harbour, Halifax, Truro, and New Glasgow. These camps offer young people an incredible opportunity to build confidence, learn practical life skills, and discover future career pathways in the skilled trades.

It was especially meaningful to see three social work students from the Africentric BSW Program at Dalhousie University, Dale Adams (pictured), Tracey Dorrington‑Skinner, and Phillip Jackson, using their social work skills during their internship to coordinate and facilitate these camps alongside AEA staff. Their leadership and commitment are making a real impact on our youth.
