This year, the Grade 7 class chose to focus their Service Learning efforts on helping Hope for Wildlife (). They began by hosting an Online Auction to help raise money for a new microscope and spent the second half of the year creating individual projects based on animals that Hope for Wildlife has helped such as: foxes, deer, weasels, groundhogs, racoons, flying squirrels, eagles, long-tail ducks, and many more!
In April, we had a visit from Senior Education Coordinator, George Ryan, and Barbosa the owl, and he gave a presentation that helped to answer a lot of questions that our students had. They loved getting to meet an owl up close!
In May, the 7s visited Hope for Wildlife to get a further look at all of the wonderful work they do, got to see some animals currently being treated, and got to ask specific questions about their animals.
Recently, the 7s hosted an Education Fair to display their animal projects, and invited all of the other classes to teach them about the animals and Hope for Wildlife. During this time, they also hosted a bake sale as another fundraiser!
Overall, the Grade 7s raised $1017 for Hope for Wildlife and are so happy their efforts will go towards helping Nova Scotia's wildlife!

Our Grade 4 students recently traveled to Blue Beach in Hansport, Nova Scotia, to celebrate the culmination of their Science unit on Rocks, Minerals, & Fossils.
Blue Beach, a globally recognized fossil site, is celebrated by paleontologists and geologists for its remarkable discoveries, offering crucial evidence of the first vertebrates venturing onto land from the sea. Blue Beach also holds the distinction of being the birthplace of vertebrate paleontology in Canada!
Our students' day began with an engaging exploration & explanation of the on-site museum. Here, they learned about the significance of the fossils found at Blue Beach and gained insights into life as it existed 350 million years ago.
Following the museum visit, the students were each given a fossil hunting sheet and accompanied to the beach by Chris Mansky, Blue Beache's resident fossil expert. The Grade 4 students thoroughly enjoyed searching for fossils and filling their backpacks with their discoveries!
