A small section of a work in progress. Remembering the summer in the dead of winter.

Dear Friends,

The time has come, I am retiring. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to teach art to so many and for so long. Thank you for all the support you have shown me over the years.

I began as an art director in Montreal Parks and Recreation in the early 70s, taught with Dartmouth Parks and Recreation and with the Halifax School board as an elementary and junior high art teacher. Along the way I worked with the PAINTS and 4Cs programs, facilitating several school murals. And I managed to write and illustrate several children’s books.

In all those years I drew a lot of energy from the children I taught and for this, I say thank you.

All the best,
Marijke

The 5-7 year old artists created their own version of cave art.

Just let them play.

Yes, of course it just makes sense!

The science is clear: Drawing beats out reading and writing to help students remember concepts.

Fun and helpful read!

Little artists are prolific. Take action before torn finger paintings and lumpy clay pots take over your home.

The walls are alive with colour once again. How many colours can be made with just the three primaries. Lots!
