Our spring session of the Animal Care Exploration Program was a huge success! 17 participants learned so much about animal care in just five sessions. A few of the things they got to:

💙 Explore exciting career pathways in animal care across a wide range of settings, including veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, wildlife rehabilitation centres and more

💙 Do hands-on, enrichment-based activities such as creating DIY toys for participants’ own pets as well as for shelter cats.

💙 Enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the Tartan Tails Veterinary Hospital and a visit with cats at the Nova Scotia SPCA - Dartmouth Shelter.

A really cool lesson was viewing samples under the microscope, including a flea, a tick, a porcupine quill, horsehair and a peacock feather. 🔬

Thank you to everyone who made this session fun, interactive, open space for BIPOC youth to learn about our amazing industry. And a shoutout to TELUS and TELUS Friendly Future Foundation for helping us bring this program to reality! 🤩

Happy National Tartan Day! Last year, we introduced the official Nova Scotia SPCA Tartan. 🤩

We chose colours that represent our provincial history, our organization, and the people and animals we serve.

🔹Red – Represents the first peoples of our province, the Mi’kmaq people.
🔹Gold – Represents the over 400 years of contributions to our province by those of African descent.
🔹Silver – This colour represents protection, as well as our founding as the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty.
🔹Blue – A colour to represent welcoming newcomers to the shores of Nova Scotia.
🔹Green – The colour of new beginnings; for animals, people, families. Whatever brings you to the SPCA.
🔹White – The eternal colour of hope. Hope for a future where animals are safe and healthy.

Thank you for being a part of our story! 🐾

Please note, we don't have tartan items available for sale at this moment.

But if we were to bring them back, what would you like to see? Tell us in the comments. 👀
