PRO-D DAY AT THE ART BARN! - FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23rd

We will be spending the day making wonderfully weird things, building tiny worlds and turning ordinary materials into extraordinary ideas.

Think miniature rooms, imaginary creatures, secret doorways, curious little books, tiny businesses, and cardboard engineering.

There will be pencil crayons, fabric scraps, cardboard, buttons, beads and all sorts of interesting bits and pieces just waiting to become something else.

No two projects need to be alike. No paint required (with the exception of paint pens) Just a day to experiment, invent, build and MAKE THINGS.

10-3 - with an outside break on Art Barn property.
Ages 5+
$65+gst pp
All supplies and materials provided - students bring lunch/snacks & water bottle

Anything goes at Barbie got a whole makeover - new clothes, new head, yes, we took off her head and gave her a new one. And to go with her outfit and the new head on her shoulders, her nails were painted. Really making the magic happen over here šŸ„°

The Starry Night in the Quilted Valley quilt made an appearance at the Beyond Barriers Banquet last night. Got her hung back up this morning. Also, Zoya Cherechnikova has a big organizing job going on in the man cave with all the bins from the Up High shelf. Maybe time to purge some of the stash?

Would you come to a pumpkin paint night with Kass?

These pumpkins were painted by Kass, who has been working alongside me at the studio since May. She is a trained artist, with a fantastic eye for colour and most importantly, she genuinely loves making art and sharing that love with other people.

So, we've been talking about her hosting a Pumpkin Pint night at the studio.

Think of an evening of pumpkins, colour, good music, a little creative guidance from Kass and plenty of room to make something that actually looks like YOU made it.

Drop a šŸŽƒin the comments if this sounds like your kind of night. If there's enough interest, we'll put a date together!

It would be byob, all supplies included. 2-3 hours, $45pp

Homeschool Art Club - 1:30-3. Ages 5+

A weekly art session for homeschoolers who like to make, experiment, figure things out and occasionally take an idea somewhere completely unexpected.
We explore different artists, techniques, materials and ways of working - but there's plenty of room for kids to follow their own ideas too. This isn't about everyone making the same thing. It's about learning skills and then seeing what you can do with them.

A little art. A little creative problem solving. A lot of making ideas tangible.

There's more to sewing than pushing fabric thru a machine. Kids learn how their machine works, how to thread it, what all those buttons and k***s actually do, and even a little basic machine care and maintenance.
Then we get to the fun part:
MAKING THINGS!
Sewing club is a place to learn real skills, build confidence, solve problems, and make something they can actually use.

Ages 6+ - $20hr

Machines and supplies included.

The studio will be closed for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
I'm taking the day to step away from the studio and make space for learning, reflection, and remembering the children who never came home, the survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities who continue to carry those impacts.

There is no art/sewing club. We'll be back to our regular schedule on Thursday.

The Art Barn Studio is closed today in recognition of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. This is a day to pause, listen, learn, and reflect on the truths of Canadaā€™s history and the ongoing impacts of residential schools. Reconciliation asks more of us than remembranceā€”it asks us to keep learning, to listen to Indigenous voices, and to consider what we can each do differently.

Shout out to for dropping off bags of broken toys. We draw them, we take them apart. We investigate them and how they work. We make art with them.
