The Cranbrook Eagles were recently in Chilliwack, BC for the '2026 Bronze Gloves + Provincial Championship'. It was previously mentioned that while there our Cranbrook Eagle (and Fernie hometown boy), Luther Sawatzky not only walked away with a Provincial gold medal, but he was also presented with the award for 'Best BC Junior Boxer of 2026’. However, the talented Tangena Marie Photography of Prince George, BC (and Inner City Boxing PG photographer) managed to capture these sweet moments for our club also. Thank you so much for literally being everywhere (all the time) and thinking of us too.

*Updated* Coach Tom White would like to add that the best boxers need to be able to take in constructive criticism because boxing is a sport of lifelong learning, growth, and adapting. The Cranbrook Eagles were in Chilliwack, BC for the '2026 Bronze Gloves + Provincial Championship' from September 25–27. Our Eagles soared out of Chilliwack sporting some shiny new hardware (two gold medals and three silver medals).

Damian Lepsis boxed in the gold medal match today against highly ranked, Thunder Innis, of Inner City Boxing PG. Coach Tom said, “It was a back-and-forth technical battle with both boxers hesitant to throw, but when the exchanges happened, they were fast and ferocious.” His coaches are so proud of his performance as he secured a Provincial silver medal today. The club looks forward to their MAIN EVENT rematch at ‘Night of the War Dogs’ in Prince George in a couple of weeks. Coach Tom is optimistic that both Thunder and Damian will be selected to represent BC in Cape Breton, NS at Nationals.

Edric Berg Van Steinburg boxed his heart out at the Bronze Gloves final today and left everything in the ring. He was in very tough today in this gold medal match. Unfortunately, he took three standing eight counts and the match was then stopped in the third round (with ten seconds remaining). Coach Tom remarked, “Edric worked hard to control the distance, fought with great heart and determination, but it just wasn’t his day, and that happens in boxing.” However, he walked away with very proud and impressed coaches and a shiny silver medal around his neck.

Layton Gronlund was in the Bronze Gloves final today and won by unanimous decision despite receiving an eight count. Adjustments in the third round (specifically to block punches) resulted in him out-performing his opponent which was a big learning moment and will pay dividends down the road. He continued to push the pace forward, and it was non-stop action. Coach Tom said, “Layton took to heart the Eagles saying that every second matters.” Pure grit and determination helped Layton secure the gold medal victory.

Brantley Campbell (who won the silver medal on Saturday at the Bronze Gloves) boxed in his third match today as an exhibition. He had a very challenging first round, but the corner crew managed to settle him, and he took in what his coaches were telling him, that resulted in a huge comeback in the second round, that then catapulted him into having a tremendous third round. Although this exhibition was not scored, his coaches were impressed with his ability to shake it off, listen, adapt, and come out on top.

Luther Sawatzky who was previously awarded the Provincial gold medal, had eight rounds of sparring; four rounds with a Vancouver athlete, and four rounds with a Nelson athlete today. His team took advantage of the opportunity with the rings being set up and available, and banked some valuable practice time sparring high-level athletes in the same weight division.

Coach Tom noted, “We walk away from this tournament exhausted, extremely proud of ALL of our boxers, and excited to have such a great experience under our belts, as this new season begins.”

The Cranbrook Eagles are currently in Chilliwack, BC for the '2026 Bronze Gloves + Provincial Championship' from September 25-27. On Saturday, Layton Gronlund, Edric Berg Van Steinburg, Brantley Campbell, and Chris Bohn stepped under the lights, beyond the ropes, and into the ring.

Layton Gronlund battled hard for his victory, winning by unanimous decision. He listened and implemented what his coaches said and stuck to the game plan. He did not let off the intensity throughout all three rounds. Layton will be boxing in the gold medal match on Sunday.

Edric Berg Van Steinburg had an epic carbon copy performance from yesterday and demonstrated a masterclass of pocket control by making his opponent miss while simultaneously capitalizing on every opportunity, and flashing those tremendous technical abilities. Edric will be boxing in the gold medal match on Sunday.

Brantley Campbell was in tough for his gold medal match, and it was a battle right from the first bell. He received an eight count in the first round only to come back in the second and return that eight count knocking his opponent down with a perfectly-placed, big right hand. Brantley demonstrated great heart right to the final bell and finished the tournament sporting a shiny silver medal. His coaches remarked how proud they were of his accomplishment with this being his first provincial-level and Bronze Gloves tournament.

Chris Bohn truly represented the Eagles spirit in his bout tonight against a strong southpaw. He used smart combination punches, but unfortunately the bout did not go his way. However, his coaches were so proud of his performance, noting that he continues to learn and improve each time he steps up to the ropes.

On Saturday night, Luther Sawatzky was presented with the award for ‘Best BC Junior Boxer of 2026’, being recognized for his journey to Nationals last spring, where he took home the silver medal, and that hard-fought road leading up to the incredible pinnacle match. Additionally, he has won this year’s BC Provincial gold medal (by walk-over), and Coach Tom has secured a sparring session for Luther on Sunday to capitalize on additional experience.

Damien Lepsis will box for a gold in Provincials on Sunday, and Layton Gronlund and Edric Berg Van Steinburg will box for the gold in the Bronze Gloves. Additionally, Coach Tom has secured an exhibition bout for Brantley Campbell on Sunday for additional learning experience.

Also on Saturday, multifaceted Coach Tom White stepped into the ring—by stepping out of his coaching threads and into his officiating attire to dust off his refereeing and judging abilities. He wants to thank the apprentice corner coaches, Cyrus Lepsis and Luther Sawatzky, for stepping up and stepping in to assist the team when needed.

The Cranbrook Eagles family would also like to congratulate Coach Jag Seehra and Coach Kenny Lally of the Inner-City Boxing Club of Prince George. They were both presented with ‘Best BC Coach’ at the BC Provincials in Chilliwack, BC tonight.

Jag has 137 fights under his belt, 4 National medals, 5 Golden Gloves Championships, and 11 Provincial Championships. Kenny has 126 fights under his belt, boxed for 10 years on Team Canada, 7 National Championships, 6 Golden Gloves Championships, 11 Provincial Championships, as well as a bronze medal from the Pan American Games.

Together they recently hosted an EPIC four-day novice training camp that brought together various clubs and reunited former Inner-City Coach, Bob Pegues and former teammate, Coach Tom White. These two athletes have the experience, heart, and the boxing knowledge to back it up. Their passion for the sport is contagious, and we love to see what they are doing for boxing in our province. Congratulations boys, on an award that is very well deserved! 🏆🏆

That is our Cranbrook Eagle (and Fernie hometown boy), Luther Sawatzky, being presented with the award for ‘Boxing BC Best Junior Male Boxer’ of 2026 at the BC Provincials tonight in Chilliwack, BC.🏆

In 202 days, Luther became the BC Provincial Champion, Western Canadian Champion, and a Canadian National silver medalist (facing off in several bouts to get to that gold medal round).

Your Eagles family is cheering from afar Luther Sawatzky —well deserved and hard fought! 🦅

The Cranbrook Eagles are currently in Chilliwack, BC for the ‘2026 Bronze Gloves + Provincial Championship’ from September 25–27.

Friday night’s Bronze Gloves lineup included boxing match-ups for Brantley Campbell, Bo Thurow, and Edric Berg Van Steinburg.

Brantley Campbell had a captivating performance and dominated all three rounds with the confidence of a seasoned boxer. Brantley secured his place in the gold medal match today.

Bo Thurow lost a hard-fought match but showed good improvement and made his coach proud by landing some big punches and demonstrating a lot of grit, heart, and determination.

Edric Berg Van Steinburg put on a masterful performance by controlling the pocket and making sure his opponent missed. He capitalized on every opportunity and bobbed and weaved his way right to the final bell. Edric will box today and if victorious he will advance to the gold medal round tomorrow.

Also boxing today will be Layton Gronlund and Chris Bohn.

Damien Lepsis will fight on Sunday for gold, and if he dominates today, Chris Bohn will also fight Sunday for gold.

Luther Sawatzky wins the gold medal by walk-over, but his coach is still trying to secure a fight for added experience.

Coach Tom, Cyrus Lepsis, and Luther Sawatzky all expertly cornered their teammates and are looking forward to another day spent at ringside.

Hey Eagles Fans! 🦅

The Cranbrook Eagles will be off and soaring to Chilliwack, BC tomorrow to attend ‘The 2026 Bronze Gloves + Provincial Championship’ from September 25–27. This event will be held over three days and it will be a two-ringed tournament.

Damien Lepsis and Luther Sawatsky (Fernie's hometown boy) will be boxing in the Provincials (ten fights or over), and Chris Bohn, Edric Berg Van Steinburg, Bo Thurow (Sparwood's hometown boy), Layton Gronlund, and Brantley Campbell will be competing in the Bronze Gloves (under ten fights).

Tom White will be coaching and cornering his team along with apprentice cornerman, Cyrus Lepsis, who is still out with an injury but attends and participates in every practice. Tom White will also be dusting off his referee gear and stepping in as an official.

The club would like to send a huge thank you to fellow Eagle and BC Boxing Official, Steve Mercandelli (Cranbrook Dodge), along with The Cranbrook Eagles Boxing Club for covering the boxer’s accommodations.

Additionally, the team would like to send a huge thank you to Brandon and Marilyn Hyggen of Glendon Logistics, who have donated the use of a limo to get the team to Chilliwack in style.
