Comox Valley Lifelong Learning Association is a community wide initiative to promote and support literacy and learning in our community.
Our priorities are:
• to promote and increase awareness of literacy needs and opportunities in the Comox Valley
• to support events and activities which foster life-long and life-wide learning in our community
• to provide services and resources that build capacity, fill gaps, and enhance coordination among community stakeholders
• to be a a hub for literacy contacts, information, programs and resources.

First Summer Reading Launch at Ecole Puntledge Park tomorrow! We've got some great books to give to students to get them excited about reading all summer long. Our phenomenal VIRL librarians will be at Puntledge Park also signing kids up to their Summer Reading Club. Summer Reading Launch needs more books!
CVLLA, the Vancouver Island Regional Library and a few elementary schools will be distributing books among students to read during the summer. We’d like to ensure that each student receives a book of his/her choice but we need your help. Please donate gently used books relevant for ages 5 to 14 to the Courtenay Branch during branch hours. We would appreciate that donations are high interest, relevant, and in good condition. Please refrain from donating religious books, books on potty training, and Disney books. The Summer Reading launches will occur in early June (dates and locations TBC).

Newfoundland and Labrador are closing a whopping 54 library branches to save $1M. 41 will remain open. The cost to the communities affected by the loss of their library branches is much much more than $1M. Schools and communities around the world will be standing up to homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of bullying and uniting to celebrate acceptance and diversity. There are some great literacy resources available through Decoda Literacy Solutions. They have valuable adult learning resources such as Building Resilient Workers: Health and Safety at Work (which teaches participants about health and safety in the workplace), Writing Out Loud (which encourages reluctant writers to put pen to paper), and family literacy program guides such as Love 2 Learn and Parents Reading, Children Succeeding, and LEAP BC activity cards.
