🤝 Providing general event support throughout the evening

No special experience is required—just a friendly attitude and a willingness to help! Volunteers on this shift eat for free 😋

~ Field Notes on Community Water Monitoring ~

💚 Healthy watersheds start with people who care! 💚

The Community Water Monitoring Initiative (CWMI) monitors local streams every summer and fall. Summer monitoring started earlier this month, and Ayla, our summer Environmental Technician, joined in with six of our local stewardship groups in the field during their first week of monitoring. She wrote about the experience in our tech field notes series, which you can read on our website:

🌊 Healthy streams and watersheds are important for the health and well-being of both people and wildlife, and long-term monitoring helps us understand how our water resources are changing. By documenting things like the effects of climate change, urban development, and land management, we can better understand where our watersheds may need support and help guide future conservation and restoration efforts.

Please join us in welcoming Brian Bawtinheimer to the Project Watershed board of directors - we're very excited to be working with him!

A little about Brian:

🌎 Brian recently moved to the Comox Valley after almost 35 years with the provincial government.

🏞 At BC Parks, Brian was Executive Director for provincial protected areas planning, land acquisition, conservation and restoration, and Indigenous Relations programs.

🌊 He chaired the national Canadian Parks Council, Canadian Heritage Rivers Board, and served on the Haida Gwaii Management Council.

🌲 Kate joined the Project Watershed Board because she believes we live in an interdependent world with a shared responsibility to each other and the environment.

💚 In her free time she enjoys reading, live music, film, art, and exploring Vancouver Island with her family.
