Intuitive eating assumes your internal cues are clear, steady, and reliable.
But what if hunger, cravings, mood, and focus are being influenced by hormones and neurotransmitters that are out of balance?
That’s where things get complicated.
Dopamine affects motivation and reward.
Estrogen influences appetite and blood sugar.
Cortisol shifts hunger and food-seeking under stress.
Insulin resistance changes how your body responds to meals.
When these systems are off, intuition isn’t broken ~ it’s being overridden.
Genetics helps us understand the biology behind those signals so they can be supported, not ignored or judged.
When the chemistry is supported, intuitive eating becomes far more intuitive!
This isn’t about rejecting intuitive eating.
It’s about creating the conditions where it actually works.
And this matters to me because I was an intuitive eating coach.
I still believe deeply in intuitive eating.
What I understand now is that intuition is clearest when the body feels supported, steady, and safe.
We regulate first.
We support biology first.
And then we listen.
When the body is regulated, intuitive eating isn’t harder ~ it’s more powerful.

Turmeric is often praised as a powerful anti-inflammatory. But for some people, it does absolutely nothing - or can actually lead to more inflammation.
Genetics explains why.
Turmeric slows Phase 1 detox.
That can be helpful if your Phase 1 is too fast and creating excess inflammatory byproducts.
But if your Phase 1 detox is already slow, adding turmeric can make things worse.
Instead of collecting inflammation efficiently, everything backs up.
Here’s the simplest way to think about it:
Phase 1 is the garbage truck.
Phase 2 is taking the garbage to the dump.
If your garbage trucks are already slow, adding more things that slow them down means inflammation never gets fully collected or removed. It just stays circulating.
Some people need support to slow detox down.
Others need support to speed it up.
There is no universal answer.
Genetics helps us figure out how your detox pathways actually work so we can support inflammation properly, not blindly.
If supplements haven’t worked the way you expected, it’s not a failure. It’s a sign you need better information.

You know how when you’re not okay, the whole house feels it?
When a mom is struggling, everything feels heavier.
You’re more reactive. More tired. Less patient. And it’s harder to show up the way you want to.
That really hit home a few years ago, when I felt the shift of perimenopause.
I didn’t feel good in my body. I was exhausted, more sensitive to stress, and running on fumes while trying to raise a family. It just wasn’t sustainable.
I needed answers that helped me understand what was actually happening in my body.
What surprised me was how much that understanding didn’t stop with me.
As I learned more about how biology shapes needs, it changed how I showed up at home ~ how I parented, how I supported each child differently, and how I thought about care for our whole family.
Integrative genetics gave me language for what I was already seeing.
Why one child needs more support with focus and steadiness.
Why another thrives with movement and structure.
Why stress lands differently in each body ~ even under the same roof.
It’s also why I love supporting families through my work.
Because when a mom understands her own needs and her kids’ needs more clearly, everything gets lighter ~ more patience, more confidence, more ease.
These faces are why I pay attention early.
Why I look at behavior, energy, and resilience with curiosity instead of frustration.
February is often called the month of love.
For me, love looks like learning how to support the people I’m raising in the ways they actually need.
Understanding our biology changed how I care for each person I love. ❤️
If this resonates, I’d love to know ~ where in your family do you wish things felt a little lighter right now?

Trends I’m Not Falling For:
(And why you shouldn’t either, if you care about real, personalized health.)
1. 1g protein per 1 lb of body weight
There’s no data to support this as a blanket rule. Eating more protein than your genes require can actually drive inflammation, not muscle.
2. Creatine is a miracle supplement
If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Up to 30% of people (based on genetics) don’t tolerate creatine well and may experience adverse effects.
3. Boosting mTOR pathways
Eating constantly, BCAAs, and weightlifting can boost mTOR—but chronically stimulating this pathway shuts down sirtuins, your most powerful longevity genes.
4. Cold plunging for everyone
For those with a fragile nervous system, cold plunging can do more harm than good - keeping your body stuck in fight-or-flight instead of healing.
5. HRT without genetic testing
Throwing hormones at symptoms without knowing how your body methylates, detoxes, or stores estrogen and progesterone is risky. It’s not about avoiding HRT - it’s about supporting your body to process it properly.
You deserve health advice that fits your blueprint -
not someone else’s trend.
Your body is unique - what works for one person might do the opposite for you.
I had a reminder of this yet again when I added in magnesium l-threonate and it kept my brain wanting to solve the worlds problems allll night long when all I really wanted was a good nights sleep.
I’ll still be taking it for its awesome brain support - but in a way that works for me and my unique genetics.
So here’s a reminder to 1- connect with me to explore your genetics 2- trust yourself!

They didn’t need another diet, cleanse, or round of trial & error.
They’d already tried it all.
What changed everything was finally understanding their biology.
With integrative genetics, these three women now know:
✨ How to support their hormones properly
✨ How much protein their body can use
✨ What actually calms their inflammation
✨ Why their energy, mood, and sleep were off
✨ And exactly how to care for themselves—for life
This isn’t guessing. It’s guidance written in your genes.

I used to feel so much frustration and shame for being too “sensitive”.
Even as a young child I can remember wanting to be different - to feel different and to not be so bothered by seemingly mundane things.
When I was 45 I finally learned my genetics.
For 45 years, I felt broken until I discovered that I was actually created to feel more stress, to clear my stress hormones out more slowly than most and that my nervous system feels heightened and in fight or flight long after the stressor is over.
With this new understanding came so much compassion.
Now I don’t feel weak at all. I feel like a little sweetheart, who needs a lot of tenderness and self-love.
For me lots of time alone is not-negotiable.
My genetically determined supplements are non-negotiable.
Morning yoga, long showers, decaf and sitting at the beach … all non-negotiable.
before integrative genetics regulating my nervous system felt like an uphill battle.
Now I have a blueprint to guide my way.
There’s been so many beautiful benefits for myself and my clients when we learned how to work with our genetics… but I tell you, for most of us, understanding our stress coding is THE most profound gift in it all!
Stress can turn on 90% of our genes to their adverse position - knowing how to support this shifts it all!
If you’re ready to feel better I’d love to help you.
It starts with a 15min meet and greet - you can book this in my bio.
Big hugs ❤️
