Dear Parents,

I would like to share a few important observations and explain the teaching approach I use in our piano classes. My goal is not only to teach students how to read music and play pieces, but also to help them develop strong learning habits and a healthy, enjoyable relationship with music. I continuously study educational and psychological techniques to improve my teaching, and your support is essential for helping your children get the most out of their lessons.

Here are the key points that truly make a difference:

• Consistency is critical. Learning piano works the same way as learning a new language steadily, regular practice is the only way to improve. Long breaks disrupt the learning process and slow down progress. If your child has a gap in practice for any reason, please avoid showing disappointment; instead, help them organize a simple, manageable practice routine.

• Positive language drives better learning. I avoid statements like “you made too many mistakes.” Instead, I use encouraging phrases such as “Now you know the challenging spots, next week it will be even better!” This keeps students motivated and willing to try again.

• We emphasize effort, not labels. Rather than telling children they are “smart” I reinforce specific actions like “you listened carefully” or “you practiced well.” This builds a growth mindset and teaches them that improvement comes from effort, not innate talent.

• Mistakes are part of the process. I have noticed that some parents become concerned when their child makes an error. Research in psychology shows that children learn faster when their progress is acknowledged and when mistakes are treated calmly. A supportive reaction boosts confidence and helps them stay resilient.

• My main goal is to build genuine musical appreciation. I want students to enjoy music, not just play it. With my background in painting and ballroom dance, I know how understanding an art form enhances the joy of engaging with it. The same is true for music; deeper understanding leads to greater enjoyment as they grow.

Thank you for working together with me to help our students learn, improve, and truly experience the joy of music.

Sincerely,

Arash
