What an unbelievable summer for us here at West Coast Education!! We never would have thought we would be seeing an average of 30 students per day even in the summer! We are lucky to be able to dedicate our lives to students who are equally so dedicated that they choose to commit to their schooling even on their well-earned break. We are also happy to be so able to support hundreds of students during this period of uncertainty in the BC education system. We are particularly grateful that we have the ability to make all the difference in so many students getting their educational needs met, especially obtaining admission into their preferred post-secondary programs, throughout this situation.

We also are thrilled to have had the opportunity to create our SECOND scholarship this summer! The West Coast Education Absolute Achiever Award is a $5000 award program established through Kwantlen Polytechnic University that will help support local students pursuing their education in the Lower Mainland for years to come.

We are very proud to see all our graduated students embark on their first-year experience at top post-secondary programs throughout North America this fall! We know you are in for an amazing experience, and we are honoured to continue to be able to support you through this next part of your lives.

Finally, we hope the current conflict plaguing BC's Education system will be resolved in a way that supports our students, as well as the teachers and systems they need in order to achieve their goals. We will continue to offer free tutoring for any students who are children of teachers, as a way of helping to offset the financial burden we know these families are facing. We will be here throughout the process to ensure that individual needs are met, and we encourage anyone to contact us to book a free consultation in order to better plan for, not only this approaching school year, but future academic and career goals. So excited to celebrate an amazing and successful anniversary here at West Coast Education! Besides this being the best year of our lives personally and professionally, Sean and I consider ourselves so lucky to have had the opportunity to meet so many new people and the pleasure of working with so many amazing students. We watched countless students succeed in their educational and career endeavours, from achieving incredible improvements in course grades at the high school and university-level, to gaining admission into top post-secondary programs, and obtaining full-ride scholarships across Canada and the United States. We are especially proud to announce our $750 donation to New West Secondary School's Graduation Events this June, as a way of celebrating this anniversary, as well as honouring a community and graduating class that have enriched our lives so much! We are looking forward to this next busy, and exciting month for so many of our students, and to wrap it all off with some celebration at the end of the year for our many graduates!

We are pretty sure that one of our favourite things to do is write reference letters for jobs or post-secondary applications for our awesome students. We had the pleasure of writing four this week, and we love how every single one has been for a different program, job, or opportunity. It's pretty amazing how diverse everyone is in their choices, and nothing makes us happier than being able to support everyone in their academic and career endeavours. These next two months will be a little crazy for all our grade 12 students waiting on those acceptance letters - if you need any advice about this whole process, you know who to call! Just a reminder to all our grade 12 students! The application deadline for September 2014 admission to UBC is coming up this Monday, February 3 at 11:59 pm! If you are still working away on those personal profile questions, or haven't thought about applying yet, do your research and ask me if you have any questions or concerns. The past two months we have been working with students on optimizing their personal profile questions and applications, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you need any help getting through this confusing process or if you need any advice on building the perfect university application! Due to all the requests, we are open all day on Halloween: 12 pm-10 pm. We're so proud of how hard everyone is working, but hopefully everyone will still squeeze in some fun in between school on Thursday or over the weekend! And if anyone is in the neighbourhood on Thursday but not coming in for tutoring, stop by and steal some treats from us - we will have more of the good stuff than we can handle... Today was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who showed up to our post-secondary and education success seminar at TKAA. And just a reminder to everyone - West Coast Education is putting on presentations all fall at various community centres throughout the Lower Mainland; our goal is to educate students on how to plan ahead in high school to keep post-secondary options open and improve chances of getting into that dream school or program. The seminars also cover how to tackle post-secondary admissions, scholarship applications, and most importantly, how to succeed once you are in! Today was only one of many to come, so if you missed it, don't worry. West Coast Education will be at TKAA once again tomorrow to wrap up this weekend seminar, and out again next month in several community centres in your area. What an awesome first month of school! We simply can't believe we have started off the school year being able to help so many students every day from 12 pm to 10:30 pm!! And we are so impressed with the number of students choosing to be proactive about their education. On our end, it has been hectic but incredibly rewarding! And thanks to all the requests, we are open all long weekend, including all day AND evening on Thanksgiving Monday. So if you are like the rest of our students and your teacher thought it was a good idea to schedule big tests right after the long weekend, the good news is (I guess?!) we will be around to help! Enjoy the long weekend everyone!!
