Indigenous Community for Leadership & Development

We were honoured to attend the South Island Pow-Wow and connect with so many community members, families, and professionals.

One of the photos captures four generations together, a special moment celebrating family, culture, community, and tradition.

We also had the opportunity to share information about ICLD through our outreach table, which received a great deal of positive attention and interest throughout the day. Many visitors stopped by to learn more about our programs, training opportunities, and the work we do to support Indigenous learners and communities.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by our table, shared their stories, showed interest in our work, and volunteered their time. We are grateful for the opportunity to build connections and be part of such a meaningful community event.

🧡 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

We recognize that Truth must come before Reconciliation. This day is an opportunity to listen, learn, remember, and reflect on the lasting impacts of Indigenous communities.

The image we are sharing today was thoughtfully designed by our Education Assistant Training Program students. We are proud to share their work and the meaning behind it as we continue learning together.

At ICLD, we believe education plays an important role in building understanding, respect, and stronger relationships. May we carry the lessons of today forward—not only on September 30, but throughout the year.

At ICLD, we are committed to supporting Indigenous participants as they build skills, confidence, and pathways to meaningful careers. Through a combination of practical training, safety education, industry exposure, and employment support, we help participants develop the knowledge and workplace readiness needed to succeed in the construction industry.

As part of their training, participants recently received Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and learned about the importance of job site safety and industry standards. They also participated in a site visit to an active construction project, where they observed the progress of the build, asked questions, and engaged in discussions. These hands-on experiences provide valuable insight into the industry while helping participants connect classroom learning to real-world work environments.

ICLD's work is grounded in healing, community connection, lifelong learning, and capacity building. We support programs that strengthen communication, leadership, personal growth, employment readiness, and community wellness while honouring culture, lived experience, and the strengths that already exist within each community.

Through hands-on learning, group discussions, presentations, outdoor activities, and collaborative exercises, participants are encouraged to build skills, gain confidence, and learn from one another. Our programs create opportunities for individuals to share perspectives, practice new skills, and develop meaningful connections that support both personal and professional growth.

Whether learning in the classroom, participating in group activities, or engaging in land- and community-based experiences, participants are supported in a respectful and inclusive environment where every voice is valued. Every program begins with listening, because meaningful solutions are developed with communities, not for communities.

We're honoured to have partnered with Beacon Community Services on their recent Indigenous Cultural Awareness and Relationship Building learning journey.

Thank you to Beacon for your commitment to listening, learning, and strengthening relationships with Indigenous communities. Meaningful reconciliation happens through ongoing education, respectful dialogue, and action.

We appreciate the opportunity to share knowledge, create space for conversation, and support organizations as they continue their reconciliation journey.

World Indigenous Peoples Day 🧡

This Sunday, we recognize and celebrate Indigenous Peoples around the world, honouring the cultures, histories, knowledge, and contributions that continue to strengthen communities across generations.

At Beacon, our Indigenous logo reflects our commitment to building meaningful relationships with Indigenous peoples and communities, and to ongoing learning, reflection, and action. We are grateful to live, work, and serve on the traditional and unceded territories of the W̱SÁNEĆ people and the Lekwungen-speaking peoples of the Songhees and Kosapsum First Nations.

Indigenous teachings, perspectives, and ways of knowing are woven throughout many of Beacon's programs and services. Across the organization, we are privileged to serve many Indigenous community members, and in some programs, Indigenous participants represent more than half of those accessing services. These relationships continue to shape our understanding of how we can better support community through connection, respect, and collaboration.

We also recognize that reconciliation is not a destination. While we are proud of the work underway, there is still more to learn, more relationships to build, and more work to do.

Recently, Beacon's leadership team participated in a three-day learning journey with Indigenous Community for Leadership & Development. Thank you to Paula, Cyril, and Sara for sharing your knowledge, guiding meaningful conversations, and helping us deepen our understanding of how Indigenous teachings can continue to shape the way we lead, collaborate, and serve our communities.

On World Indigenous Peoples Day, we reaffirm our commitment to listening, learning, and moving forward together with humility, care, respect, and action.

At ICLD, learning extends beyond the classroom. Through visits from Fraser Health, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, SkilledTradesBC, CCPABC, and other community partners, participants gain valuable insights into health, financial literacy, career pathways, and workforce opportunities.

These conversations help participants explore new possibilities, build confidence, and connect with resources that support their personal and professional goals.

Thank you to our guest speakers for sharing their knowledge and helping our participants build brighter futures.

ICLD supports organizations with strategic planning, policy development, facilitated dialogue, and planning sessions that are inclusive, culturally responsive, and action-oriented. We help teams move from intention to implementation by creating space for honest conversations, shared priorities, practical next steps, and accountability. Our facilitation approach honours Indigenous protocols, diverse voices, and collective decision-making.
