August 12 Update:
After a couple of weeks of seemingly hopeful conditions the fire has leaped closer to the farm and things are looking bad. Please renew your prayers!!!
Please pray for Jenelle and Glenn McMillan, our indigenous friends who live in the Fraser Canyon, across the river from Spuzzum, and who have recently been put on evacuation alert by the authorities because of the rapidly approaching Brunswick Creek wildfire. They must try to assemble transportation for their farm animals and pets, including hens, Guinea fowl, goats, dogs, cats, as well as whatever belongings they can manage, and transport them to safety before the firestorm reaches them. The McMillans have been involved at TLA for the last number of years both on campus and at Camp Squeah, as they teach us about the ways of our indigenous Canadians, and have developed a strong bond of friendship with our students and staff.
The fire is a major one, and its smoke has reached Vancouver about 200 km away. From some places in the Lower Mainland the plume of smoke can be seen.
May God and His angels drive the fire away from their home and keep Jenelle and Glenn safe from this horrendous danger.
St. Florian, Patron Saint of Fire Fighters, Pray for us! Amen.
