Save the date now for a brand new Guest Curator Performance at Place des Arts!

Do You Understand Me Now? is a solo theatrical performance by Karter Masuhara, exploring the intersections of language, gender, and generational distance. In the work, Karter attempts to hold conversations with their two grandmothers — one Japanese and one French-Canadian — by speaking in their mother tongues despite not being fluent in either. Through these imagined dialogues, the performer tries to explain their identity as a trans/non-binary person.

This piece was made in collaboration with Amélia Simmard, Davey Samuel Calderon and June Fukumura.

Last Saturday, we filled the Leonore Payton Salon with live arrangements of Bach, Vivaldi, Handel, Mozart and Brahms with the Augmented Five. Between witty banter and poetic duets, the audience was treated to an evening full of beloved classics. 🎵

We are grateful to Augmented Five, our attendees, volunteers, and supporters, who helped make this special evening possible.

We are seeking unique, high-quality, handmade items to fill our shop with exquisite gifts for the holidays. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Your presence helped make this day meaningful as we reflected, learned and created together through the powerful guidance of Indigenous artists and educators Christine Mackenzie and Nova Weipert.

We are deeply grateful to Stephen Armstrong, an Elder with Kwikwetlem First Nation (kʷikʷəƛ̓əm) for the welcoming remarks, and to the Coquitlam Public Library for sharing their Indigenous Collections and leading a craft activity. We would also like to thank MP Jake Sawatzky, and City Councillors Trish Mandewo and Teri Towner for attending this meaningful event.

Together, we continue to build a stronger, more connected community through art, dialogue, and respect.
