The Highland 2019 Grad Class wants to leave a legacy. Our goal is to complete 19 different projects

#16 on our list of 19 for 19 was completed on May 17th! Our Grads put together a clothing swap. It was a way students could swap their old, unwanted clothes with other’s instead of buying new! All unclaimed clothing at the end of the swap was donated!

🚴🏻‍♀️🚴🏻‍♂️🚴🏻‍♀️
Some dedicated Grads volunteered an hour to spinning at the Comox Rec Centre. The event raises money for Canadian Tire Jumpstart and the Comox Valley Healthcare Foundations.
Thank you to those amazing athletes who participated, Paige (organizer), Madeline, Nicola, Kylea, Breckin, Victoria, Zach, Tim, Eun, Gorka and others!

#8 on our list of 19 for 19! Connecting with Elementary students👫.
In February, some of our of Grads went down to Brooklyn Elementary, a feeder school for Highland, and spent the afternoon playing games in the Gym! The Grads also made Valentine’s Day cards with the students to take home to their families❤️. Brooklyn had an early dismissal that day, so our Grads saved some parents from having to leave work early, and also got a chance to connect with the students!

Thank you Victoria, Sophia and Kate!

#13 on our list of 19 for 19!
Highland Grads completed a bake sale fundraiser for the charity Thrive Malawi! By selling cupcakes to our school’s AGs, we raised over $200! Thrive Malawi’s mission is to advance the development and education of children with disabilities and other disadvantaged children in Malawi. The money will go specifically to Thrive Malawi’s Nutrition Support program where malnourished children are fed maize soya porridge and chiponde (fortified peanut butter paste) to reach a healthy weight!

Thanks to Katherine Lyster for organizing this fundraiser!

#14 on our list of 19 for 19! Staff Appreciation Day💛. Highland Has Heart
Highland Grads baked homemade treats for the Highland Staff! The pictures only tell half the story... there were cookies, breads, muffins, donuts, scones, pastries and more! Our Grads took each Staff member’s order of fresh Tim Hortons coffee or a tea and brought them a snack!
🍪🍪🍪
Thank you to all the Grads who helped out baking and handing out food all morning! It was such a fun start to the day and great way to show our appreciation to our wonderful Highland Staff!🥰

#6 on our list of 19 for 19!
Highland Grads have successfully donated school supplies for 19 students in Africa (Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda and Bolivia) through Best Gift Ever Canada.
This goal was initiated by our Grad Aisha HB who was inspired after volunteering in Kenya with ME to WE last summer.
✂️🖍✂️
One billion children still live in poverty today. Our Grads are happy to give 19 children the tools they need for their education.
Thanks to everyone’s donations and financial support to make this possible❤️

#7 on our list of 19 for 19!
Yesterday (02/23/19) Highland Grads participated in the Coldest Night of the Year annual walk for homelessness! Despite the rain and chilly weather we completed the 5k route (with help from coffee and hot chocolate to keep us motivated☕️).
Highland had the only large presence of high school students at the event, something to be so proud of! We hope to set an example for future Grad classes and other high schools to get involved with this incredible event.😊
Good job to all of our Grad participants! Thank you to everyone who helped fundraise and who donated.❤️

#5 on our list of 19 for 19!
Highland Grad Claire Knowles organized a blood drive which many of our Grads participated in. No one loves needles, but one donation/pint of blood can help save 3 people’s lives. This was a unique and rewarding way to give back to our community! Claire’s vision is to leave a legacy of donors for life!🔬
