Goodbye friends.

The Lifestyle Project started as a small dream between my brother and I. We wanted to connect people to the world and help them explore not only new destinations, but also to learn more about themselves. Travel has always been a great way to learn, to get outside of our comfort zones, and to see the world through different perspectives. Over the years, we have dreamed up fantastic experiences for our amazing customers, and we are so grateful that they entrusted us with forming their memories. We don’t often choose what we will remember, and traveling is a good gamble for great memories.

We had a lot of fun co-creating travel experiences with people. We are glad that none of our mistakes led them to being stuck in prison or a misguided burrito street vendor.

This business was a grand experiment. My thesis supervisor warned me that this wouldn’t be too lucrative with the model I had. In fact, it was never meant to be. For me, it was always all about the process, it was always about the human experience. I figured most businesses fail anyways, so I might as well do something that cultivates enthusiasm, that gives people a deeper sense of time, and a more connected life. Its always been about self-discovery through cultural exposure.

Though I may mutter to myself about my philosophical ideas, to have built something of meaning with my brother has been the most beautiful of experiences. We believe in following our hearts, and going after our dreams. Even now, it blows my mind that by simply throwing out this crazy idea to the universe, Riley and I were able to fulfill a lifelong dream I had of going to Machu Pichu in Peru. It was an unbelievable moment of surreal transcendence, and to experience it with my best friend was something that I will never forget. We feel incredibly lucky to have traveled and learned about other cultures together.

It is all about moments. We need not travel far away to recognize the beauty that exists in our everyday lives. We must learn to slow down and enjoy. We must learn to live in harmony with one another, and look after the only home we have. Our time is precious.

At the moment, we’ve decided to focus our energies on other projects, and we thank you all for all of the support along the way. Letting go of something you love is a hard thing to do, but I trust in the unknown, and I believe that greater things are to come.

We encourage you all to keep dreaming, to keep living more deeply, and to remember that in the end, it will always be the people that matter.

Thank you for sharing your time.

Tory and Riley

Far From Perfect Notes on Infinity

“We should intentionally leave room for what we don’t finish.” - Axel Vervoordt

As far as we understand, the universe seems to be limitless, or without end.

As people who are trying to create order in the world, we look to complete things. We want things to get started, and finished.

We try are best to mimic nature, forgetting that we are nature ourselves, and use physics and mathematics to accomplish fantastic things such as building bridges and sending satellites into space.

There is no number for the endless. We can’t calculate it, but the concept is widespread through out cultures of the world.

Rather than seeking perfection through order, we can attain a limitless existence if we tune into the world as it is right now.

Learning to see things as they are. By connecting with ourselves and our surroundings, we can feel momentarily what the infinite is.

WE don’t have to make everything perfect. Perfect is a hard word to define because our minds can’t achieve that length. We aren’t able to go there is by force.

Michelangelo often didn’t finish his work.

Artists learn to leave room for voids. Is is from the emptiness that comes creation.

It is the space between the musical notes that make it seem so pleasant.

We prevent ourselves from taking risks and going into the unknown because we are worried that what we do won’t be perfect. So this thing that we can’t even define prevents us from trying at all?

The only thing that seems perfect at all, is the universe, and the universe is infinite as far as we understand , which means that the universe is perfect because it is uncompleted…not the opposite.

So take a chance on the things that inspire you, the interests you have.

We will not look back and be disappointed with our imperfections. We are human, and that in itself is a wonderful realization. We are alive, and we are for a short period, witnessing the cosmic dance that unfolds around us.

We try to trap things. we take photos, we try and write the best collection of our thoughts, we don’t want the moments to disappear so we try to hold on. Life is change. Don’t be afraid of change.

Let’s jump into infinity, and enjoy the ride.

Let’s change the way we travel, together.

""Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life." - Omar Khayyam"

This blog is about sharing ideas that stimulate the soul. As life long learners, we are constantly being inspired by the work of others. So much of what we do as a company is about designing the context for our customers to be in the moment and enjoy their time. Today we share 3:33 minute video to remind us all about our new found itch to reach for our phones. The Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows is a website that creates words based off of the roots of existing words, in order to fill in the space where we feel something, but have not yet defined it.

Where ever you are, dive deeply into your now, and enjoy

When The Words Don't Come, Paint | Culturally Immersive Vacations | The Lifestyle Project 04/29/2018

When The Words Don't Come, Paint
“The painting has a life of its own. I try to let it come through.” - Jackson Po***ck

There is this strange feeling when you want to say something but you forget the word you were looking for. You continue going about your day and all of a sudden, at the strangest time, the thing that you were looking for comes to the forefront of your conscious.

We all go through periods where the inspiration isn’t coming. This can be frustrating. Our spirits can become dejected and suddenly the vision gets a bit blurry. We put pressures on ourselves to be more, do more, and always be improving. We so badly want to enjoy each day to the fullest, and sometimes, things just don’t always play out that way.

Whether it is the athlete going through a performance slump or a writer experiencing the block, there appears to be ups and downs for everyone. So, how does one get out of funk?

One way may be to just shift your attention to another enjoyable task. Essentially, give your brain a break. Approaching something more aggressively is often the last way to get the results you want. Doing the opposite however, can free up your brain space and provide you with some of your best insights. It is almost as if you are buying yourself time so that your subconscious mind will organize itself better. This can be done in infinite ways.

Two of our favourite ways to regain our gusto are found in the active and the creative. A day full of meetings can be heavy brain work, try breaking it up with a 10 minute walk. If you are lacking the words to express yourself, play around with colours. The point is, expression comes in many forms, and when one form is blocked, its important to shift to another.

What about trying something new all together? When we are kids, we are constantly exposed to new forms of thinking. We are always learning something new and we often approach a new task with curiosity. I feel that in our adult lives, it becomes more difficult to get invested in new activities. They require that much more effort and we have to fight past our networks of insecurities. Getting out of the comfort zone can be difficult, but the key is to make it fun.

Taking up a task like dance, or panting shouldn’t be that difficult. Kids do them both happily. What usually happens though is that we judge ourselves. With so many years of experience and a more realistic idea of what a good painting might look like, we prevent ourselves from even exploring these areas. Comparison is a killer of happiness. Of course your paintings might actually be terrible, but there is no need to throw an exhibition next week. Perhaps nobody will ever see the art, perhaps you will burn it or throw it away but if you just allow yourself to play a bit, you will probably enjoy how meditative it is. It is also just a wicked excuse to be messy!

With our approach to travel, we want our customers to have choices. We think that it is important to continue working on your current interests when you are away from home. At the same time, we encourage trying new things and learning from the many artistic facets of life that cultures offer so diversely. We think that we are never too old to play, and never too old to learn something new.

Life offers us so much to enjoy. Let’s draw in inspiration from various places.

Let’s change the way we travel, together.

Serendipity | Culturally Immersive Vacations | The Lifestyle Project 04/01/2018

Serendipity

“There’s always going to be the circumstances you can’t plan for. There’s always the unexpected relevance and the serendipity.” -Jason Silva

noun.
the occurrence and development of events by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

To plan or not to plan, that is one of the questions. Planning is a way of helping us predict the outcome. It creates a sense of safety and it makes us feel as though we are prepared to confront the challenges that await us. There seems to be endless benefits from the idea of preparation but as we all know, not everything goes as planned.

There must be a balance between preparation and adaptation. If you plan too much than you chain yourself to order, while if you plan nothing at all, you might feel as though you are roaming around aimlessly. It depends on the individual. Total order might result in a sense of freedom just as the opposite can be said for an open minded approach. It becomes a ping pong match of control and surrender.

There are so many ways to go about traveling. One very common way strikes this balance, mentioned above, perfectly. Many travelers simply know where they will land at the beginning and where they will fly out from, everything else is left to the opportunities that arise. I must say that having done this myself, it is an incredibly liberating concept of exploration. Unlike having an open-ended ticket with no finish ( which is really a beautiful thing as well), people are able to set their visions on a destination. Its a goal. The details about how to get from A to B might not be so clear, but it provides people with a direction. It feels a bit like a safety net.

What is beautiful about this sandwich of time is that you allow yourself to go with the flow. If you enjoy where you are, you stay longer, and if you don’t, than you can pack up and leave. This comes a bit from the backpacker’s mentality. By creating this context, you open yourself up to take life as it presents itself. Discoveries come in all shapes in forms, and serendipitous moments take your on a truly thrilling ride.

Life adds up perfectly in hindsight and when you think about how you got to this point right now, could of it happened any other way? Maybe that conversation you randomly had was exactly what you needed to have at that point of your life?

We can all experience moments of serendipity but it requires this balance. It requires an attitude of possibility and an openness of the heart. It is part trust, part vulnerability an awareness of the now. The realization of serendipity comes as we edge our way into the future. The unknown exposes itself as we breathe deeply and move forward into our conscious awakening.

But you have to be awake and remember that life is beautiful mystery.

So however you do it, whether you create a context in travel, or adopt a new shade of seeing life unfold, keep in mind that there is opportunity everywhere and that we are all lucky to be alive. It is magical

Sometimes things happen for a reason.

Let’s change the way we travel, together.
