These days, being Soul Attorney looks a little different than it used to! 🤗

This is what being a lawyer looks like for me now. 👩‍⚖️

In the past, my practice focussed largely on corporate contracts, business transactions, and estate planning.

Today, you’ll find me in court advocating for clients involved in estate disputes, elder financial abuse claims, contested wills and complex family estate conflicts.

I’ve traded boardrooms for court rooms and I couldn’t be happier!⚖️

There’s something incredibly rewarding about helping people who feel unheard, protecting vulnerable individuals from financial exploitation, and guiding families through difficult estate disputes.

The work is challenging, emotional, and sometimes unpredictable, but it is also meaningful, exciting, and deeply fulfilling.

People ask me: Can you really do a will in one day?

And the answer is: Yes, if it’s structured and planned for.

Will in a Day works because I don’t ‘rush.’

I prepare.

Here’s how it works:

You complete a questionnaire in advance, make some of the key decisions before you show up — executor, guardians, beneficiaries, powers of attorney (because you know your family better than I do!).

You do the pre-work first.

Then, we meet to confirm decisions and risk areas first thing in the morning.

I get to drafting, then send it to you for digital review.

Then, we meet to give it a physical review and read through together prior to ex*****on done properly — witnesses, affidavit of ex*****on, signatures, the whole thing done with integrity.

Service providers: if your contract doesn’t have a termination clause, you’re not protected — you’re hoping the client stays reasonable when things get tense.

A termination clause is the breakup plan. It tells both sides exactly how to end the relationship cleanly: how much notice is required, what happens to work-in-progress, when the final invoice is due, and what gets delivered on exit. Without that roadmap, “we’re done” turns into a negotiation — or a standoff — or a demand letter.

And here’s the hard truth: when the ending isn’t defined, both sides default to their worst interpretation of what was agreed. That’s why termination clauses are one of the first things I fix when I review service agreements for Ontario business clients.

LegalZoom and DIY will kits aren’t wrong because they’re inexpensive.
They’re wrong because they’re generic.

Here’s what kits don’t do: match your specific assets to the right clauses. Handle blended families, businesses, or real estate properly. Prevent conflicting instructions.

As much as it's easy to say "I've got a simple situation", a Will is not just a form you fill in. It’s a document that needs to reflect Ontario law, your specific family, and your actual intentions.

The problem doesn’t show up when you sign it. It shows up when you’re gone and your family is fighting over what you meant.

A will isn’t paperwork for you. It’s instructions for the people who have to clean up after you, under grief, against a bank, sometimes in court.

Get a real will. It’s less expensive than you think.

I’m not here to shame anyone who used a DIY kit. I’m here to tell you what I see when those documents end up in my office. Missing witnesses and affidavits of ex*****on. Wrong or missing executor powers. Ambiguous language that a judge will have to interpret. The document cost them $50. The legal fight to figure it out will cost $50,000. Let’s fix this now.

POV: Someone dies. The family is grieving. And then they find out the corporation’s records are a mess.

Nobody can prove who owns the shares, who the directors are, or what decisions were properly made.

If you own shares in a corporation and you die, your estate trustee needs to step into your shoes.

But if the minute book is out of date, the share register is blank, or no one can find the records —

Your estate is frozen while lawyers sort out what you actually owned.

Corporate mess plus death equals delay, conflict, and legal fees — on top of everything else.

Clean minute books are a gift to your future executor.

Boring paperwork becomes critical paperwork the moment something happens. Keep the records clean.

You’re like — I’m official.

In reality, your empty minute book is asking you: ‘…but are you really?’

❌️ If the cash for shares was never paid into the corp (yes, even $10),
❌️ shares were never properly issued and recorded,

Law has never felt so good ✨

Soul Attorney is evolving behind the scenes — and I’ve been in my wintering season: new certifications, deeper study, and systems built to serve you at a higher level.

If money, legacy, alignment, and death have ever felt like the “ickiest” parts of life… I want you to know: I’m here for all of it. And for you. 💚

Over the last four years working on the solicitor side (corporate/commercial + estate planning), I kept seeing the same thing: when the plan isn’t built properly, people pay for it later — financially, emotionally, and relationally. My work is about putting legal supports in place that match the legacy life you’re living now, and the one you’re building.🦄

And now, as I expand further into estate litigation and administration, it actually feels like a return to my roots. I started my legal career in litigation for the first four years — and coming back to this work and bringing both sides of the legal coin together now feels different: sharper, calmer, more intentional. Like I have the full context, the 50,000 foot view.

Life has a way of doing that. We don’t move in straight lines — we move in cycles. 🌀We revisit the same themes and lessons, but each time with more capacity, more clarity, and more power. And it’s only in hindsight that you realize: every step, every season, every detour was building toward this exact point. ✨

Because most people don’t even have a basic plan — never mind one that’s tax-aware, clear for loved ones, and aligned with their values. Going forward, I want my work in estate litigation to serve the whole person inside the legal process (business partner, widow, executor, beneficiary — all of it), while staying anchored to the intention behind the documents and the deep sense of justice people are craving.

And yes — I’m also bringing more of my spiritual side forward… FINALLY.
